At this time of year, the trusted overcoat is definitely needed to feel warm and comfortable when we're outside. Investing in a tailored coat will last you for many seasons, and after seeing the gorgeous coats worn by the women who were involved in Inauguration Day 2021, we at A Hand Tailored Suit thought we should bring you some of our favourite styles and colours in ladies' overcoats.
Fashion weeks continue to be different in the current climate, but some are still going ahead safely and with guests in attendance, spotting one guest wearing a gorgeous brown/bronze tweed coat to the Haute Couture S/S21 during Paris Fashion Week. A brown tweed coat is always a winner for the colder seasons, and this one with its glittering feature in the cloth would be a stand-out choice. In its double-breasted form and with a sharp curved edge to the hem, this style of coat looks great worn fastened or unfastened when the cloth choice features many colours.
Continuing with the attendees at Paris Fashion Week, one guest was photographed in a long double-breasted black overcoat. A black coat is very easy to style, easy to wear and always looks chic. This particular one made from wool has a lovely shoulder line, buttoned cuffs, flapped pockets and wide peak lapels. The peak lapels instantly give shape and structure to the shoulder line which, combined with the long length of the coat, provides a clean tailored line. Whether this style of coat is worn open or fastened, the silhouette and overall impact of the coat is powerful.
Another overcoat spot from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin January 2021 is seen on influencer Jacqueline Zelwis: if a one-colour coat isn't the style for you, opt for one with pattern like this grey check coat. Check coats are always a great addition to the wardrobe and a design that won't fade away. This particular option is single-breasted, has a single-button fastening and a matching belt that can also be used to fasten the coat: it can also be tied for added detail at the back like Jacqueline wears it here. The large patch pockets add dimension to the coat but also add great practicality.
Why not try something a bit bolder in an overcoat too like these below? Choose an overcoat with vibrancy and colour like Sonia Lyson, or one with an enlarged pattern like Marie von den Benken.
A classic colour coat that is almost a wardrobe essential is the classic camel/beige coat like Lois Opoku. The style of the coat, whether it being oversized or true to fit, always looks great in this colour and can be dressed up or dressed down: another versatile overcoat. Lois's beige coat features a matching belt, slanted welt pockets and fabric-covered buttons to convey the soft texture of this classic choice.
Here's Victoria Jancke pictured below wearing a darker camel coat using the matching belt to fasten it up. Similar features include oversized shoulders and slanted pockets which work well on this style.
