Birmingham's Clean Air Zone: What To Know Upon Your Visit

As of the 1st June 2021, the city of Birmingham introduced a Clean Air Zone as a way of reducing harmful emissions from the most polluting vehicles to commute through as least as they possibly can. From the 14th June 2021, a daily charge was introduced to vehicles whose properties did not meet the criteria in order to pass through the Clean Air Zone without paying a charge. The vehicles that will be more affected are diesel cars older than 2015.

As our Birmingham showroom at 95 Spencer Street is located fairly central within the city of Birmingham, we at A Hand Tailored Suit want you to feel extra prepared for your visit to the city if you are driving.

Where is the Clean Air Zone?

The Clean Air Zone in Birmingham is covering all roads within the A4540 Middleway Ring Road (the actual Middleway is not included within this zone). Using the map above, you will see we are within this Clean Air Zone.

What does this mean?

This means you may have to pay a congestion charge, but it will depend on the vehicle you have and its emissions. You can check if your vehicle falls under the criteria here: https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones

If your vehicle does indeed mean you are required to pay a charge, you can:

  • Pay 6 days prior to your visit to our studio
  • Pay on the day of your visit to our studio
  • Pay 6 days after your visit to our studio

Here is a link to where you can pay: https://www.brumbreathes.co.uk/info/32/charges-operation

Charges are set at £8 for cars, taxis and vans, with £50 for coaches, HGVs and buses. Checking if your vehicle does or does not meet the emission criteria is important as cameras will recognise vehicles driving through the Clean Air Zone and can issue penalties to those that don't meet the emission standard if a payment isn't made.

Where can I park upon arrival for my appointment?
