Milan's Men's Fashion Week ran from the 14th to the 17th of June this year. It takes place biannually during the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. The June Men's Fashion Week shows off designer's Spring/Summer collections for the following year. Fashion Week features a myriad of presentations from top designers and leading luxury brands, including Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, Prada, and Fendi.
This year's Men's Fashion Week featured many trends across all the runway shows, such as the trench coat in a variety of styles, soft purple, lilac, and lavender tones as a palette staple, relaxed everyday tailoring, the leather jacket in different silhouettes and colours, vintage 90-style pieces were prominent, and finally, collegiate style was given a modern twist.
Prada's Spring/Summer 25 collection was unveiled at the Fondazione Prada, a contemporary art and culture institution founded by Miuccia Prada in 1993. Take a look at the full runway show below.
A small white hut on stilts had been erected leading down to the curving runway below via a long walkway. Flashing lights and Faithless' Insomnia blaring from the hut suggested a fantastic party going on backstage. This was all linked with the collection theme that, according to co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, was about "freedom, youthful optimism and energy" because youth is hope and "the times are so bad". The pair created clothes that looked like they had already been worn or even slept in by creasing, exaggerating, shrinking, and warping the garments -shirts were twisted around the body. Trousers looked like they were falling down by sitting low on the hips and bunching at the ankles. They wanted to create a sense of clothes swapping and borrowing between people, too, so some garments looked ill-fitting with too-short sleeves and excessively long trousers. Prada and Simons also used trompe l'oeil effects (requiring a second glance to make sure you saw correctly!), such as striped T-shirts where the stripes were ever so slightly curved and distorted and belts that were actually "faux" and part of the trousers themselves. Other youthful and party elements were included in the accessories, like the visor sunglasses, whose lenses were printed with images of raves, Roman statues, and American highways. Scroll through some of the looks from the collection below.
