The Gentlemen's Styles of Wimbledon 2022: The Opening Week - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Gentlemen's Styles of Wimbledon 2022: The Opening Week

The famous grass court tournament of the sport has returned to its famous SW19 postcode for 2022, with many of the top-seeded and highest ranking tennis stars playing over the two-week period to win the Wimbledon Championships. The sport is indeed entertaining to watch and certainly filled with drama and thrill; but the outfits are what we also look to take note of by the celebrities spotted in the crowd and attending across the days. During the opening week of Wimbledon, we spotted a few cool smart/casual attires from the gentlemen who were there, with a few wearing Ralph Lauren.

Presenter and singer Marvin Humes was spotted wearing a rather soft light sage green two-piece on the opening day of the tennis tournament. He styled with it with a smart white polo shirt underneath that was worn open collar and left untucked for that casual element. The jacket also included notch lapels and a two-button front, with the same buttons (smaller versions) also arranged in a four-button cuff on each sleeve. The classic flapped pockets sat near the bottom whilst his welt pocket was accessorised with a patterned pocket square. The trousers were slim and sat on the top of his shoes to create a break on the front just above the hem.

Also keeping it smart/casual with a white shirt and suit was presenter Joel Dommett, whose suit was a deep burgundy red in a double-breasted cut. The jacket was designed with six black buttons on the front and peak lapels which sat a little low to create a longer collar, not affecting the structure of the shoulders. The trousers were slim with a break at the hem too and the subtle showing of a centre crease down the front for that tailored finish. The white crew neck shirt was tucked into the waistband and, with the jacket sleeves rolled up to the elbow, it exposed a striped lining inside which the shirt would pair nicely with.

Ballet dancer Eric Underwood kept it monochrome for his smart/casual attire on the opening day of the tournament wearing a matching mid-blue polo top and chinos. His shoes also had elements of blue in to keep this matching look strong too. The polo shirt had two out of the three buttons fastened to still keep an open-collar look, the short sleeves finishing middle of the top part of his arms and posing with his hands tucked into the pockets of the trousers.

Wearing a grey pinstriped two-piece suit was actor and rapper Michael Dapaah (also known as Big Shaq), who styled the attire with a casual white crew neck shirt too underneath. The jacket's design incorporated a six-button front and worn open to really enhance that casual element to a double-breasted number. The cuffs were arranged in a classic four-button style whilst the double jet pockets were subtle, whilst the welt pocket was pattern-matched yet a substantial height. The peak lapels had a lovely smooth curve for the outer edges, allowing the lapel points to be sharp and extra refined. The shirt was worn over the trousers which had a flat front and tapered at the ankle with a little bit of room in the fabric at the hem.

Sporting a navy blue subtle check printed blazer was actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and it was styled in quite a vintage, dapper way too. The jacket details included wide notch lapels and a two-button front, angled double jet pockets near the bottom and an angled welt pocket on the chest. The lapel lines were finished with a plain edge as the light blue shirt collar was worn over the top, enhancing the height and the open-collar style indeed. The trousers were a stone/beige shade with noticeable centre front creases that help convey the flared hems, a detail that certainly echos this vintage gentlemen summer attire.

Spotted in the crowd on the first weekend of Wimbledon 2022 was diver Tom Daley, whose suit was a statement thanks to its bright mustard yellow tone. The jacket featured notch lapels and a double vent on the back with flapped pockets almost aligned with the bottom button of the two-button front. A welt pocket also sat on the chest with a buttonhole included on the one lapel. Smaller versions of the brown horn buttons were arranged in a four-button overlapping style, the bag picking out this detail very well. The trousers included a subtle centre crease down the front, whilst the white formal shirt was accessorised with a salmon pink tie under the collar.

Fashion model Brett Staniland kept it effortlessly casual wearing a long-sleeved black polo neck top with ribbed cuffs. There is an element of a relaxed fit to the top as echoed through the natural folds in the top, whilst the collar is worn open and the bottom button of the three fastened. It's tucked into a pair of wide-legged black pleated trousers, accessorised with a dark brown belt on the waistband to cinch in the ensemble, allowing the relaxed silhouette of the garments to be strengthened further. Pockets are included on the sides and the hem falls over the top of the trainers with the subtle centre creases still providing a crispness to the outfit.

Donning a possible linen number for the middle Sunday of Wimbledon was actor Martins Imhangbe, with the colours of the cloth quite faded within a bold, striped design. The jacket included notch lapels and a three-button front with a patter-matching welt pocket sitting on the chest. The trousers included a thin waistband with contrasting blue belt loops, a flat front and the hem finishing just over the top of his shoes. Underneath the jacket was a white crew neck shirt worn to echo the trainers and contrast the faded blues, greys and pinks with this strong piece.
