A SICILIAN FAIRYTALE A Bespoke Black-Tie Wedding in Taormina, Sicily
Share
Wedding Date: 5th September 2026 | Taormina, Sicily
Some wedding commissions are about creating a suit for a destination. Others are about creating something that becomes part of a couple’s story.
For Jake Taylor, his September 2026 wedding in Sicily was deeply personal. It was his wife’s Italian heritage that inspired the couple to choose Sicily for their wedding celebration, bringing family, heritage and a spectacular Italian setting together for an unforgettable occasion.
With the wedding taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Taormina, Jake came to A Hand Tailored Suit in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to create a completely bespoke black-tie look for the occasion.
The result was a classic black mohair tuxedo, elevated through carefully considered bespoke details and personal touches that made the garment uniquely his.

The Bespoke Black Mohair Tuxedo
At the centre of Jake’s wedding wardrobe was a bespoke two-piece black mohair dinner suit, selected for its refined finish, natural lustre and timeless eveningwear character.
The jacket was cut with a dramatic 4-inch peaked lapel, covered in contrasting black velvet. The velvet continued across the straight front pockets, creating a sophisticated relationship between the jacket and trousers.
The jacket was finished with:
- Black velvet peaked lapels
- 4-inch lapel width
- Single-breasted front
- Straight flapped pockets with black velvet jetting
- Double vents
- Framed ivory plain lining
- Pink contrast detailing
- Black velvet buttons
- Breast pocket
- Hand-stitched plain finish
- Flash cuff detail
The combination of black mohair and velvet gave the tuxedo a traditional black-tie foundation, while the bespoke construction and personal detailing made it entirely Jake’s own.

The Details That Made It Personal
For us, some of the most interesting elements of a bespoke wedding commission are the details that aren't immediately visible.
Inside Jake’s jacket, the wedding date “05.09.26” was embroidered above the inside pocket — a discreet reminder of the occasion that will remain with the garment long after the wedding day.
The ivory lining was finished with contrasting pink detailing, adding a subtle connection to the wider wedding aesthetic.
But perhaps the most sentimental detail was incorporated into the jacket in a rather more unexpected way.

A Church, A Set of Coordinates & A Lasting Memory
The coordinates of the church where Jake and his wife were married were incorporated into the bespoke garment:
37°51'6.26"N, 15°17'7.94"E
Rather than simply being another decorative detail, the coordinates create a permanent connection between the tuxedo and the exact location where the couple exchanged their vows.
It is one of the things we love about bespoke tailoring.
A garment can carry memories within its construction.
Years from now, the tuxedo will still tell the story of where it was worn, when it was worn and why that particular day mattered.

The Bespoke Evening Trousers
The matching black mohair trousers continued the clean formal aesthetic of the jacket.
Designed without pleats, they featured cross pockets, side adjusters and plain hems, with a ½-inch black velvet evening stripe running down the outside of each leg.
The velvet stripe was deliberately matched to the velvet lapels, creating a continuous visual line from jacket to trouser.
Brace buttons were also added, allowing Jake to wear traditional evening braces when desired.

The White Pleated Dress Shirt
The tuxedo was completed with a bespoke white pleated dress shirt crafted from Egyptian cotton.
Designed with a semi cut-away collar, classic pleated front, dress studs, double straight cuffs and white buttons, the shirt provided the traditional foundation expected of formal eveningwear.
Jake also chose to have his initials embroidered onto the cuffs, adding another discreet personal detail to the ensemble.

Italian Heritage, Bespoke British Craftsmanship
What made this commission particularly special was that the Italian influence wasn't simply a styling exercise.
The destination had genuine meaning.
Jake and his wife chose Sicily because of her Italian heritage, making the location an important part of their wedding story.
The elegant villa, historic church, Mediterranean surroundings and atmosphere of Taormina provided the backdrop — while the tuxedo itself was designed and handcrafted in Birmingham to reflect Jake’s own style and the formality of the occasion.
The result was a wedding look that felt completely at home in Sicily without becoming costume-like:
Classic black tie. Individually tailored. Personally meaningful.
From Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to Sicily
Although the wedding took Jake and his wife thousands of miles from Birmingham, the tuxedo began its journey in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter.
Every element was individually considered — from the black mohair cloth and velvet lapels to the ivory lining, buttons, trouser stripe and personalised embroidery.
That is the essence of bespoke tailoring.
It isn't simply about creating something that fits.
It is about creating something that belongs to the wearer.
For Jake, the finished tuxedo became part of a very special occasion — a garment connecting Birmingham craftsmanship with a Sicilian wedding shaped by family heritage, tradition and celebration.
A bespoke tuxedo for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
With Thanks to the Wedding Team
A beautiful destination wedding is always the result of many talented people working together, and we would like to acknowledge the suppliers who helped bring Jake and his wife’s Sicilian celebration together.
