For local groom Kalum, the journey to the altar on August 2nd begins in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter at A Hand Tailored Suit. Here is a look behind the scenes at the design of a truly stunning, evening-wear-inspired 3-piece masterpiece.
The Fabric of Elegance: Black Mohair & Butterfly Brocade
The foundation of Kalum’s suit is a luxurious Black Mohair by Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC). Mohair is prized for its natural sheen and its ability to hold a crisp shape—perfect for a high-summer wedding.
To create a striking contrast, the waistcoat is crafted from a White Butterfly Brocade (Ivory Jacquard). This isn't just a suit; it’s a study in texture and light, blending classic evening-wear sophistication with modern bespoke flair.
The Design Details
Every element of this commission was chosen to reflect Kalum’s personal style and the significance of the venue:
- The Jacket: A sharp single-button front featuring bold 4" Peaked Lapels and slanted flapped pockets. For a touch of hidden luxury, the interior features an Antique Gold Paisley lining with a framed finish and hand-stitched detailing.
- The Waistcoat: A standout Double-Breasted 3x3 design with a V-neck and Shawl Lapel. It features matching ivory buttons in the same ivory fabric as the waistcoat contrasting seamlessly with the jacket.
- The Trousers: Slim-line Mohair trousers with side adjusters and brace buttons, ensuring a perfect silhouette without the need for a belt.
- The Shirt: Two custom-made White Egyptian Cotton shirts with semi-cutaway collars and concealed buttons for a clean, formal aesthetic.
