Cannes Film Festival 2025, Red Carpet Style: Women
Share
The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival ran for eleven days in May, from Tuesday, the 13th, to Saturday, the 24th. The event is a celebration of film and cinema, and guests are required to follow a strict black-tie dress code for premieres and galas. This year, the dress code was tightened for women, with nudity and voluminous outfits, especially those with large trains, being banned. The ban led to far fewer on-trend sheer outfits and much daintier trains. However, considering the new rules were only announced twenty-four hours before the opening ceremony, and some celebrities had planned their outfits for weeks, if not months, there were, unsurprisingly, a few rule infractions. Let's take a look at some of the biggest names' red carpet styles.
Emma Stone
Emma Stone arrived at the screening of her film Eddington in a white Louis Vuitton backless column dress with an asymmetrical structural 'bib' collar and a short train. She wore her auburn hair slicked back, accessorised with dangling diamond earrings, and added a pop of colour with a burgundy manicure.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie also attended the premiere of Eddington. She donned a strapless, champagne-coloured ball gown by Brunello Cucinelli. She styled the ensemble with nude heels, diamond drop earrings, and a tennis necklace.
Natalie Portman
Eddington was a popular premier! Natalie Portman also attended wearing a remake of a Dior haute couture gown from 1951. It featured a silver sequinned strapless bodice with a black velvet bow that led into a full black velvet ball gown skirt decorated with silver sequins in a scallop pattern. She accessorised with matching diamond earrings, a necklace, and a ring.
Halle Berry
Halle Berry walked the red carpet at the screening of The Phoenician Scheme in a pastel Chanel wide-legged pantsuit. The matching set was adorned with delicate, multicoloured flowers, and the seams and pockets were accented with black ribbon for an interesting contrast.
Andie MacDowell
Andie MacDowell arrived at the screening of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning looking stunning in a black Mugler tuxedo. The jacket featured a nipped-in waist and curved flap pockets that hugged her hips. The trousers were slim and straight-cut, and the bow tie was oversized. She rounded out the look with a pair of sparkling silver heels.
