Pop superstar Ellie Goulding married Sotherby’s art dealer Caspar Jopling on 31 August 2019 at York Minster. The couple also rented Castle Howard, the Yorkshire stately home, as a luxury retreat to stay during the wedding celebrations with their star-studded guest list and for their elaborate reception. On the 28th of August, over fifty staff members set up marquees, teepees, and a stage in preparation for the nuptials.
300 guests joined the couple to celebrate and it is reported the flower arrangements alone cost over £20,000.
The couple arrived in a vintage VW minibus.
Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and the Duchess of York
Princess Eugenie, who reportedly introduced the couple, was in attendance along with her sister Princess Beatrice. Princess Eugenie wore a navy floral dress and headband. Princess Beatrice wore a dark green shiny dress with a black floral fascinator. The princess’s mother, The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson arrived wearing a black dress and frock coat with a black and white floral fascinator.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
Katy Perry arrived with fiance Orlando Bloom. Katy wore a multicoloured pastel dress. Orlando wore a traditional long-tailed jacket, waistcoat, grey trousers, a white button-up shirt, and blue silk tie.
James Blunt and Sofia Wellesley
Singer James Blunt and wife Sofia Wellesley, who have been seen at all the high-society weddings lately also attended. James arrived in a similar look to the groom and Orlando Bloom with a long-tailed jacket, grey trousers, a powder-blue silk waistcoat, white shirt, and buttery-yellow silk tie. Sofia opted for a long floral red dress with a straw hat.
Jimmy Carr
Comedian Jimmy Carr was also amongst the high-profile guests. Jimmy wore grey tailored trousers, a long-tailed jacket with a double-button closure in navy, a white shirt, and matching navy tie with a white waistcoat.
Joe Wicks and Rosie Jones
Body Coach Joe Wicks arrived with fiancee Rosie Jones, who is expecting their second child. Joe wore a long-tailed black jacket, grey trousers, a navy waistcoat with contrasting yellow buttons, and a light-blue tie whilst Rosie wore a pink flowing wrap dress with white and red floral detailing.
Sienna Miller and Lucas Zwirner
Socialite and fashionista, Sienna Miller, wore a brown floral dress with Victorian-style bodice detailing, arriving with her date Lucas Zwirner.
Ellie’s Wedding Gown
For her wedding ceremony, Ellie wore a bespoke Chloe silk crêpe gown. The gown featured a ruffled high-neck collar and long sleeves, all with subtle White Rose of York embroidery which was hand-embroidered and embellished with white glass beads, doubled with a silk radzimir petticoat. She wore a long veil made of tulle and organza, which was embroidered with Ellie and Casper’s initials – E and C.
Ellie was involved in the design of her gown and looked to the Victorian era for influence as well as honouring the historical York cathedral. She borrowed diamonds – her something borrowed – from Stella McCartney.
Casper’s Suit
The groom, Casper, wore a traditional English wedding suit with a dark morning jacket with large notched lapels, a beige waistcoat with asymmetrical off-centre buttons, a blue silk tie with a tie pin, and grey checkered trousers.
Ellie’s Evening Looks
In the evening for her reception, Ellie chose an elegant Ralph & Russo off-the-shoulder white gown, plain in silhouette, with a thigh-high split and embroidered jewels.
Even later, she chose a Balmain mini dress with exaggerated sleeves for dancing the night away.
