Emily in Paris: The Julien Edition - A Hand Tailored Suit

Emily in Paris: The Julien Edition

No doubt Miss Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins) is the star of the show, but we at A Hand Tailored Suit couldn’t help but notice the tailoring some of the gentlemen wear in the show, particularly Julien’s (played by Samuel Arnold). There’s no questioning Julien’s style: it is modern, fashionable and trendy. You can’t help but notice his vast range of suits he wears throughout the series!

The Blue Hound's-tooth Jacket

Starting with the jacket that’s very much on trend at the moment: the blue hound's-tooth jacket. The print is on the larger side but the combination of the two shades of blue is perfect, a bit of summer wardrobe inspiration. The jacket is double-breasted with peaked lapels, flapped pockets on either side and the cuffs  are of a 4-button style. In the episode, Julien wears it over the top of a white roll neck knit, showing us how to style the brighter wardrobe palette in the gloomier months. A perfect smart/casual example.

The Plaid Suit

During the company’s meeting with French designer Pierre Cardeau, Julien opts for a matching 2-piece navy plaid suit in a single-breasted style. The 2 patch pockets look slightly hidden as is the welt pocket, but this is just highlighting the delight of pattern matching in his suit. Featuring a double vent on the back of the jacket, the patch pockets are more of a casual option, but this suit is ideal for wearing the jacket and trousers separately. Julien wears a semi-cutaway collar shirt with a patterned tie in the same colour palette as the suit, but the feature of the vibrant pocket square breaks up the blue-themed suit.

The Blue Suit

This is the first suit and first outfit we see Julien wear as he is introduced into episode 1 at the marketing agency in Paris (albeit a subtle introduction to the fashion he then wears throughout the series!) He wears a 2-piece blue suit which features a single-breasted style jacket, flapped pockets either side, a double vent on the back with buttons on the cuffs. This slim-cut suit includes notch lapels which Julien has so stylishly disguised with his bright orange polo neck top that also features a dark blue and white collar. How the collar sits on top of the suit almost creates the illusion of a peak lapel, a bit of clever styling from Julien.

The White Blazer

A white blazer is always a statement on its own, but Julien again styles it well. The single-breasted blazer features a thin notch lapel which includes a button-hole, a welt pocket, two small flapped pockets and wooden-style buttons on the cuffs. The main features of a jacket such as the lapel and pockets are on the thinner side, allowing the overall look to really stand out in this episode. Worn over the top of another orange top in the V-neck style, this piece of tailoring fits Julien well. It shows how he knows how to dress well and dress to impress, of which he certainly impressed us.
