Fashion Week Throwback: Prada Villains 2012
Share
It's been nearly a fortnight since Fashion Month ended. Though the biannual event will whip back around in the blink of an eye this September, we thought we'd get an extra dose of Fashion Week magnificence by examining the recently TikTok-trending Prada Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, so-called The Prada Villains runway. Watch the part of the runway showcasing the Prada Villains below.
Miuccia Prada's vision for the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection was the use of fashion to convey authority or supremacy. She transformed a Milan auditorium into an Italian palace with imposing chandeliers and an enormous vibrant red rug as the catwalk. The collection had an East Bloc Military flavour as well as giving off an air of generational wealth. However, nothing was as it seemed. It was deceptive: formal clothes were made of denim, and white turtleneck jumpers were actually mock turtlenecks on white T-shirts and so on. The most memorable part of the show was the actors who played infamous villains, who often used clothes to convey their position and superiority in films, strutting down the runway at the close of the show. The actors stayed in their villainous characters as they walked menacingly down the rug catwalk, glaring, smirking, or scowling at the audience.
Tim Roth
Tim Roth has played a few villainous roles, including Pumpkin in Pulp Fiction and Emil Blonsky in The Incredible Hulk.
Willem Dafoe
Willem Dafoe played Green Goblin in Spider-Man.
Adrien Brody
Adrien Brody portrayed the bad guy Dmitri in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman's most menacing villain role could be Norman Stansfield in Leon: The Professional.
Jamie Bell
Jamie Bell played a criminal in the thriller Man on a Ledge.
Emile Hirsch
Emile Hirsch played a young drug dealer who hired a hitman to kill his mother for insurance money in Killer Joe.
Garrett Hedlund
Garrett Hedlund portrayed a murderous gang leader in Death Sentence.
What did you think of the Prada Villains show?
Although over a decade ago, the catwalk is still memorable today. The use of infamous characters to display the collection's finale was an ingenious move that will make it stick in the collective memory for many more decades to come. The power of fashion and cinema combined to create an unforgettable moment in men's fashion history.
