London Fashion Week 2024 took place between the 16th and 20th of February. The event was celebrating its fortieth anniversary, and the schedule featured both menswear and womenswear designers, with highlights including Burberry, ERDEM, JW Anderson, Molly Goddard, and Simone Rocha.
This Fashion Week featured clothes for the autumn/winter 24 seasons. Although the designers stamped their own style onto the collections, there were a lot of stand-out trends, from the now ubiquitous sheer fabrics of many a past runway and award event to faux fur, big bows, oversized outer garments, and striking prints.
Molly Goddard presented her Fall/Winter 2024 collection in the main hall of Cecil Sharp House, the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society in north London. According to Goddard, the collection has no clear theme or vital message to convey. She sees them as beautiful, well-made garments. Watch the full runway show below.
Even if there was no true theme, you can see the inspiration from Westerns throughout the line in the knits, gingham dresses, and cowboy-themed shoes. The other significant stand-outs are the unusual silhouettes that are described as "blobby" by Goddard. The inspiration was from children wearing their parents' clothes and layering them. On the runway, cardigans were piled on top of each other, oversized jumpers were paired with pouffy dresses, and smock tops were put with ballgowns. All the combinations created uneven, bulging shapes that looked like the clothes were trying to escape their constraints.
