The London Fashion Week extravaganza took place this year between the 15th and 19th of September. Most designers host their shows at various secret locations throughout the city, but the main headquarters for the week was 180 The Strand and Somerset House.
The JW Anderson Spring/Summer 24 show took place in London's Roundhouse and had a rather unusual look. Anderson took plasticine, a soft and pliable children's clay, and moulded and hardened it into wearable hoodies and shorts. This, combined with the vivid colours the clothes had been dyed, gave the models the look of characters in a Roblox or Minecraft-type game or a stop-motion animation. The collection was meant to be playful, and like the material that the clothes were made from, plasticine, the person wearing them gives them their shape and meaning. Of course, other, more practical offerings were presented, such as trench coats, bomber jackets, evening dresses, and crocheted dresses with a 60s flavour.
Take a look at the full runway show before we dive into some of the pieces that particularly caught our eye.
Outfit #1
Starting the runway with a bang was the first hardened and moulded plasticine creation of a blue cropped hoodie and white shorts. The hoodie was made to look distressed and well-worn, while the angular, rigid shorts were given a tailored look with pleats down the front and a cuffed hem.
Outfit #2
A more traditionally tailored double-breasted jacket is seen here in a camel colour with natural shoulders, flap pockets, peak lapels, and statement tortoiseshell buttons. The formal jacket is paired with casual emerald green parachute pants with a diamond pattern.
Outfit #3
Following Burberry's lead, a traditional beige trench coat made an appearance in the collection. The single-breasted coat had added interest with a sculptural elasticated waist.
Outfit #4
This bright blue crocheted dress with its square neckline, short hemline, and complementary crocheted beige shoes definitely evoked the 1960s.
Outfit #5
Finally, Anderson had overhauled the bomber jacket, making it hugely oversized and bursting with feathers from the arm seams and front zipper.
