London Fashion Week this year took place between the 9th-12th June and 15th-19th September 2023. It showcased womenswear and menswear as a combined digital and physical event. The June programme featured both established designers and the class of 2023 fashion graduates, focussing on their graduate collections.
Day three of the event concentrated on a relatively new design label, Sagaboi, by Geoff K. Cooper. According to Sagaboi's Instagram, "Sagaboi is a fashion label linked to the Caribbean subculture "saga boy", which surfaced in the 1930s as a form of masculine rebellion". Cooper is from Trinidad and draws inspiration from his heritage and West Indian culture and tradition. His collections focus mainly on streetwear with the occasional military-inspired and tailored element. The knitwear and crochet are based on materials found in local fishing villages, and the vibrant colour palettes clearly represent the Caribbean.
Let's take a look at some of the standout pieces.
Outfit #1
This aqua crocheted set shouts seaside with its ocean-influenced colour and fishing net-inspired design. The look is practical for a day at the beach yet incredibly fashion-forward.
Outfit #2
Following on with other streetwear, this more tailored outfit looks, at first glance, to be a regular jean and jean-shirt set. However, looking more closely, we can see that the trousers are beautifully tailored with a slim but slouchy fit, a 1970s-inspired high-waisted silhouette, and exciting wave details on the shins. The shirt also had a slouchy fit but also compelling strap detailing, giving it a modern feel.
Outfit #3
A more contemporary street look was represented in this outfit with its black sequinned shorts and tight-fitting long-sleeved lemon and black tie-dyed T-shirt. The ensemble was finished off with black military-esque boots.
Outfit #4
This tailored short suit featured a white woodgrain effect fabric, the slouchy fit that runs throughout the collection, and contrasting military-style boots. The double-breasted jacket had wide peak lapels, padded shoulders, and flap pockets. This outfit represents a more casual and fun way of rocking a suit!
Outfit #5
Another beautiful suit was presented, this time featuring wide-legged trousers but the same cut on the double-breasted jacket as previously. The stunning sky blue suit was paired with an untucked striped polo-style shirt, again giving the outfit's silhouette a 70s-inspired feel.
