Milan Fashion Week took place this year at the Palazzo Giureconsulti between the 19th and 25th of September, 2023. It was established in 1958 and is part of the big four fashion weeks, including New York, London, and Paris, that take place bi-annually in February and September. Milan Fashion Week has more than forty shows each season, and tourists enthusiastically flock there each year.
Peter Hawkings debuted for Tom Ford at Milan Fashion Week with his Spring/Summer 24 collection, merging menswear and womenswear. The runway focused on tailoring in bright and unusual colours, fabrics, prints, and the standard black, cream, and pinstriped. There was also the occasional dress or skirt with fringing, beading, and feathers.
Take a look at the full runway show before we dive into some of the pieces that particularly caught our eye.
Outfit #1
As noted in previous articles, short suits for men were all over the runways in June and again in September. Hawkings added women's short suits to the mix in his collection. This example shows a brown tweed, beautifully constructed jacket with shoulder pads, peak lapels, and flap pockets paired with incredibly short shorts and a champagne silk shirt unbuttoned to the naval (a feature of the shirts throughout on both men and women).
Outfit #2
This flamingo pink suit has slim-fitting, straight-cut trousers reaching almost to the floor, elongating and trimming the silhouette. The usually formal white shirt was left unbuttoned and tieless yet tucked in, giving it a more relaxed and slightly edgy feeling.
Outfit #3
An unusual choice of fabric defined this slim-fitting suit. The suit's shining gold contrasted against the shirt's matt gold, and the black belt and shoes popped against the shimmering colour.
Outfit #4
Here, an elegant champagne silk shirt with its sleeves rolled up to the elbows and combined with an exquisitely beaded green knee-length fitted skirt was made more relaxed and informal by leaving the shirt unbuttoned and adding chunky wrist cuffs and a thick gold necklace.
Outfit #5
Finally, this suit was made of stunning blue velvet. The cut was slim but relaxed, giving it a modern feel, as did the low-rise of the trousers and the beautiful light blue piping around the long and wide lapels and front opening.
