Milan Fashion Week 2023 Highlights: Versace - A Hand Tailored Suit

Milan Fashion Week 2023 Highlights: Versace

Milan Fashion Week took place this year at the Palazzo Giureconsulti between the 19th and 25th of September, 2023. It was established in 1958 and is part of the big four fashion weeks, including New York, London, and Paris, that take place bi-annually in February and September. Milan Fashion Week has more than forty shows each season, and tourists enthusiastically flock there each year.

Versace's Spring/Summer 24 runway looked like it had returned to the sixties, showing off short sleeveless A-line dresses, puffed sleeves, crocheted florals, prim-looking sets, and knee-high boots. However, the looks were modernised with the strategic use of playful cut-outs and contemporary fabrics, including the currently ever-present sheer materials. The colour palette was decidedly spring-themed, with pastel pinks, blues, greens, and lemon yellow dominating, but with the odd offering of oxblood, black, and white.

Take a look at the full runway show before we dive into some of the pieces that particularly caught our eye.

Outfit #1

This oxblood leather suit is classic in its tailoring, featuring padded shoulders, short and broad peak lapels, and flap pockets. Still, the material and relaxed, slouchy cut definitely keeps it modern and exciting.

Outfit #2

Here, a baby pink single-breasted miniskirt suit set with natural shoulders and flap pockets set low on the hips gives Jackie Kennedy 1960s vibes that has been brought up-to-date with contrasting edgy black buttons, a black choker, and transparent plastic sandals.

Outfit #3

This suit is beautifully tailored but given a modern edge with its pastel mint green hue, baggy, slouchy cut, and sheer open-necked shirt.

Outfit #4

Short suits for men were seen all over the runways in June and have made many appearances this season, too. Versace has added their own version in a classic black and white small check. The top is a shirt-jacket hybrid made from suiting material but cut in a more typical shirt pattern, perfect for the summer season as two garments are combined into one.

Outfit #5

Lastly, this double-breasted pastel mint coat has a very 1960s flavour with its square shoulders and collar, A-line cut, and flap pockets. The length and more defined waist give it a modern twist.
