Milan Fashion Week was established in 1958 as a bi-annual fashion showcase. Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana organises it to promote Italian fashion designers in Italy and abroad. Milan Fashion Week Men's takes place in January and June, while the womenswear takes place in February and September. This year the men's event took place between the 16th and 20th of June. Milan Men's Fashion Week presented some of the biggest names in the industry for the upcoming spring/summer 24 season. Take a look at the Dolce & Gabbana runway on day two, 17th June, below.
The Dolce & Gabbana spring/summer 24 collection was titled Stile and, according to their website, "captures the essence of highly coveted contemporary menswear. It exudes an elegance that transcends formal boundaries". The runway showcased traditional emblems of the company, including the tank top, the Coppola hat, the rosary, and the jacket. However, modern elements, such as sculpted flowers, lace and mesh, were woven through the outfits to appeal to the sophisticated contemporary man. The collection had a neutral colour palette of white, beige, brown, and black, with the occasional fun polka dot print thrown in. Let's take a closer look at some of the standout pieces from the collection.
Outfit #1
This traditional and elegant double-breasted black suit had modern elements in its design that made it shine. The tailored yet slouchy trousers gave it a comfortable contemporary feel, and the jacket's asymmetric closure added to the modern character, as did the contrasting silk and wool on the long peak lapels. The finishing touches in the form of bejewelled flowers on the left lapel added that extra flair.
Outfit #2
This white and black double-breasted pinstriped suit also had a more modern silhouette with its wide-fitting jacket and slouchy trousers. The jacket contained classic elements with boxy padded shoulders, flap pockets, and short wide, peak lapels. The large stylised black flower on the left lapel added contrast and interest to the look.
Outfit #3
This suit is a beautiful cream silk, single-breasted cut with padded shoulders, a two-button closure, and notch lapels. The flap pockets are placed at waist height rather than the traditional hip height, giving it a modern feel, as does the slouchy fit of the trousers that runs throughout the suits in the collection.
Outfit #4
A more contemporary and relaxed look came from these slim-fitting black trousers and a mesh shirt. Mesh has been trending on red carpets everywhere for months, and D&G are now pulling men into the fad with this flamboyant polo-style collared shirt with appliqued black flowers and sequins and a matching cover for the trousers. The outfit was finished with black sunglasses and a black leather clutch bag.
Outfit #5
This more relaxed look featured tailored, slim-fitting but slouchy black trousers paired with a delightful black leather bomber-style jacket nipped at the waist with elastic to give a voluminous and baggy silhouette. This outfit is perfect for business casual events.
