Milan Fashion Week. Day Two, June 17th 2023: Emporio Armani - A Hand Tailored Suit

Milan Fashion Week. Day Two, June 17th 2023: Emporio Armani

Milan Fashion Week was established in 1958 as a bi-annual fashion showcase. Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana organises it to promote Italian fashion designers in Italy and abroad. Milan Fashion Week Men's takes place in January and June, while the womenswear takes place in February and September. This year the men's event took place between the 16th and 20th of June. Milan Men's Fashion Week presented some of the biggest names in the industry for the upcoming spring/summer 24 season. Take a look at the Emporio Armani runway on day two, 17th June, below.

The Emporio Armani spring/summer 24 collection was based on exploring night in the Orient illuminated by moonlight. Titled "The Essence Of The Night", the collection was an array of menswear that would shine under the moon. The recurring theme throughout was a stylised ginkgo leaf, and the colours were monochromatic whites, blacks, and tans. As in other collections on the runway recently, sheer fabric, asymmetry, flowers, and knitwear were present. Armani blended Asian influences with modern Western aesthetics to create a beautiful show. Let's take a look at some of the standout pieces.

Outfit #1

This gorgeous black, subtly striped suit combined modern touches with traditional menswear elements. The jacket had natural shoulders, peak lapels, and jetted pockets, but also the contemporary asymmetric side-closure, loose, comfortable fit, and dangling sculptural ginkgo leaves. The look was rounded off with a black silk fringed skinny scarf and a gold brooch on the left lapel.

Outfit #2

This classic black evening coat had a militaristic feel with its epaulette-style shoulder decorations and upstanding collar. The ginkgo leaf motif was evident as a large white print scattered across the fabric, seemingly haphazardly. The slim black leather belt that cinched the waist and tightly cuffed sleeves enhanced the military feel.

Outfit #3

The next outfit had an almost explorer or safari-style look to it with its wide-legged linen-looking trousers and loose-fitting wide-sleeved jacket (that also could be seen as an Oriental influence). The nearly sheer matching cream-coloured shirt underneath was extra long and flowy, adding to the suit-for-a-hot-climate sense. The look was finished with a contrasting black beaded and tasselled necklace.

Outfit #4

This outfit had a very baggy cream shirt left open and paired with black trousers. The ginkgo leaf was in evidence in the form of a black metal bracelet on the left wrist. Over the shirt was a horseshoe neckline, off-white double-breasted waistcoat with straight jetted pockets. This outfit was a comfortable and modern way of wearing the usually formal waistcoat.

Outfit #5

This final look also featured a horseshoe neckline waistcoat, this time in black silk, paired with baggy black drawstring silk trousers and a long black silk robe-like coat. The outfit was worn without a shirt and finished with the beaded and tasselled necklace seen in previous ensembles.
