This year, New York Fashion Week took place between the 8th and 13th of September. New York Fashion Week is a biannual event occurring in February and September, with February focusing on menswear. The main headquarters for Fashion Week is Spring Studios on Varick Street, but designers also host their own runways throughout New York City.
Kors presented his spring/summer 24 collection on a waterfront runway lined with pink flowers facing Manhattan's iconic skyline on the 11th of September. Kors stated that his inspiration for the collection was going on holiday and the joy, positivity, and optimism in them. The theme, therefore, was "barefoot glamour", casual and relaxed. Kors took a lot of inspiration from icons such as Jane Birkin, Jackie Kennedy, Sharon Tate, and his own recently deceased mother, so the outfits had a 60s flavour. The colour palette was neutral with pops of bright colour, and the silhouettes were relaxed and flowing, made of transparent materials, cotton, crochet, and lace. Some beautifully tailored pieces also fit in with the holiday theme.
Take a look at the full runway show below before we dive into some of the standout pieces.
This beautiful nude summery suit features a loose-fitting, double-breasted boxy jacket balanced by wide-legged flowy trousers and dropped flap pockets on the jacket to elongate the body's silhouette.
This white suit also has a summery feel with its loose-fitting, single-breasted informal jacket, billowing trousers, and unusual white lace shirt that evokes 60s fashion.
Here, a plain oversized white dress shirt is elevated with an exquisitely sequinned gold mini-skirt with a scalloped hem. The look is completed with a simple gold belt slung low across the hips and a matching gold bag with a 60s-style metal hoop handle.
Short suits were seen on many runways in the menswear fashion week of June 2023. Michael Kors produced his own version. Here, you can see a monochromatic brown look with loose tailored shorts, a tucked-in lightweight cashmere sweater, and a heavier wool overcoat beautifully lined in silk for those chillier summer evenings.
Finally, a bright white fitted pantsuit with large lapels and flap pockets gave a Saturday Night Fever vibe. It was paired with a white crop top, layered mesh sweater, and dangling belt, consistent throughout the entire collection, to continue the cool, relaxed summer holiday ambience.
