This year, New York Fashion Week took place between the 9th and 14th of February. It takes place biannually in February and September, providing designers a platform to showcase their collections to a global audience. The schedule was packed with well-known designers, including Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Helmut Lang, Thom Browne, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Usually held at Spring Studios, 2024's fashion week had outgrown the venue and many official events were held at the Starrett-Lehigh Building on 11th Avenue and 26th Street. Although each designer had a clear theme for their collection, some trends spilt over from the spring/summer 24 runways, such as reds, whites, and blacks dominating the colour palette and suiting being a firm favourite. Other trends included massive shoulder pads, the 80s aesthetic, and singularly feminine touches to garments for both sexes, such as ruffles, ribbons, fabric flowers, and bows. The Victorian silhouette was also popular, as were styles from the 50s, 60s, and 90s.
Tommy Hilfiger returned to New York Fashion Week after a few seasons of hiatus. According to Hilfiger, the new collection was inspired by New York, which he called the home of classic American cool. The collection included Hilfiger's usual preppy style, with polo and rugby shirts, pleated skirts, hoodies, tweed, baseball caps, and shirts and ties. The collection was relaxed but still dressy, elegant and polished. Boxy outerwear was mixed with wide trouser legs and baggy button-down shirts, and the brand's signature colours of red, white, and blue stood out but were combined with a neutral palette of camels, tans, and creams.
