New York Fashion Week Highlights: Tory Burch - A Hand Tailored Suit

New York Fashion Week Highlights: Tory Burch

This year, New York Fashion Week took place between the 8th and 13th of September. New York Fashion Week is a biannual event occurring in February and September, with February focusing on menswear. The main headquarters for Fashion Week is Spring Studios on Varick Street, but designers also host their own runways throughout New York City.

Burch's SS24 collection continued the themes of her AW23 collection that challenged perceptions of beauty and feminity using contouring and sculpting. Her new apparel was constructed of organza, taffeta, crochet, and neoprene to give an air of dynamism, to move with the body and feel light. The colour palette was nude, with hints of yellow, green, and pink, mainly in the accessories. Like Michael Kors, the collection had a '60s feel about it, with its clean, sharp lines and short hemlines.

Take a look at the full runway show below before we dive into some of the standout pieces.

Outfit #1

This matching set had a puffed hem navy dress with a beautifully tailored shimmery thigh-length jacket. The strategically placed darts and seams accentuated the body's curves. The hidden buttons, padded shoulders, and the lack of collar or pockets gave the garment sleek lines reminiscent of 1960s-style coats.

Here, the white cropped-trouser pantsuit was also very minimalistic in its tailoring. The jacket featured a collar but lacked pockets and visible closures again, making it clean and sophisticated. The fit was slim but relaxed, giving a feeling of comfort and wearability. Interest was added to the monochromatic ensemble with a flower applique on the left breast and an architectural handbag.

This stunning silver evening coat is the epitome of '60s glamour with its rhinestone embellishments, knee-length hem, roomy fit, and structured collar.

Outfit #4

This white and grey speckled skirt suit evokes Jackie Kennedy in her '60s First Lady heyday but with a modern twist. The flared flowing hem of the skirt softens the more boxy structural jacket.

Outfit #5

Finally, this dress takes a popular '60s silhouette- the sheath dress- and modernises it by adding texture, subtle darting for more shape, and a ruffled hem.
