New York Fashion Week, September 2026: Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2027
New York Fashion Week has once again brought the world's fashion elite to Manhattan, with designers presenting their visions for Spring/Summer 2027.
And this season, one of New York's most iconic fashion houses had a particularly special reason to celebrate.
Carolina Herrera is 45.
Forty-five years after Carolina Herrera first presented her collection in New York, Creative Director Wes Gordon brought the house back to the city where it all began.
The location?
The magnificent David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
The backdrop?
Almost 29,000 yellow tulips.
The mood?
Pure Herrera.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Gordon revisited the signatures that have defined the house for decades — crisp white shirts, dramatic silhouettes, polka dots, ruffles, bold colour and unmistakable New York glamour — while giving them a contemporary interpretation.

45 Years of Carolina Herrera
Anniversary collections can sometimes become exercises in nostalgia.
But this wasn't simply about looking backwards.
Wes Gordon used the occasion to revisit the spirit of Carolina Herrera rather than simply reproducing clothes from the archives.
The collection explored the woman, the city and the world surrounding the house when Herrera launched her label in 1981.
New York.
Park Avenue.
Lunch.
Art.
Flowers.
Beautiful clothes.
And, above all, the pleasure of getting dressed.
The result felt celebratory rather than retrospective.
It was a collection that understood the history — but wasn't trapped by it.
Welcome to New York
There was something wonderfully New York about this collection.
The models appeared as though they had stepped out onto Park Avenue.
A yellow taxi.
A silk headscarf.
Oversized sunglasses.
A perfectly cut jacket.
A crisp shirt.
A fabulous dress.
The Herrera woman was moving through the city.
Going to lunch.
Going to meetings.
Going somewhere important.
And looking rather fabulous while doing it.
Gordon described the collection around the idea of a woman constantly moving through New York — from uptown to downtown, through the streets of Manhattan and into the evening.
It is a distinctly romantic vision of New York.
But perhaps that's exactly the point.
The Power of the White Shirt
If there was one garment that perfectly represented the Carolina Herrera aesthetic, it was the white shirt.
Crisp.
Elegant.
Simple.
But never boring.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Gordon revisited the house's famous white shirt in numerous forms.
It appeared tucked into cummerbunds.
Worn with cigarette trousers.
Elongated into shirtdresses.
And paired with dramatic sheer skirts.
This is where we see the beauty of a truly timeless garment.
A white shirt doesn't need to follow fashion trends.
It simply needs to be beautifully made and beautifully worn.
And perhaps that's why the white shirt has remained one of the most important pieces in the modern wardrobe.
Tailoring With Attitude
Of course, the tailoring caught our attention.
Carolina Herrera has always understood the importance of structure.
The Spring/Summer 2027 collection continued that tradition with cigarette trousers, sharply defined jackets, sculpted silhouettes and beautifully proportioned separates.
But the tailoring wasn't presented as conventional corporate clothing.
Instead, it was surrounded by glamour.
A crisp shirt became the foundation for an evening look.
A structured jacket contrasted with something sheer.
Tailored trousers were paired with dramatic accessories.
And classic pieces were given a sense of movement.

Black & White
The collection opened with one of Carolina Herrera's most recognisable combinations:
black and white.
Polka dots appeared throughout the opening looks, creating a graphic contrast that felt both unmistakably Herrera and completely contemporary.
Black and white has an extraordinary longevity in fashion.
It doesn't rely on trends.
It doesn't need complicated colour combinations.
It simply works.
A black jacket.
A white shirt.
Black trousers.
A statement accessory.
Sometimes elegance really is that simple.
Then Came The Colour
But this is Carolina Herrera.
So black and white wasn't going to last forever.
The collection soon exploded into colour.
Herrera Red made its presence felt, alongside vivid yellow, pink and other striking shades.
Colour has always been an important part of the house's identity, and Gordon embraced that heritage with confidence.
For Spring/Summer, the message is clear.
Don't be afraid of colour.
A bold jacket.
A colourful shirt.
A vibrant pocket square.
A statement lining.
Or perhaps a suit in a colour you wouldn't normally consider.
Tailoring doesn't have to live entirely in navy, charcoal and black.
Although, admittedly, we do love those too.
Polka Dots Are Back
If there was one pattern that immediately shouted Carolina Herrera, it was the polka dot.
The collection opened with black-and-white dots before returning to the motif in different forms throughout the show.
Polka dots have a wonderful ability to feel both sophisticated and playful.
They can be glamorous.
They can be retro.
They can be modern.
And, when used correctly, they can be surprisingly versatile.
It is another example of how a recognisable house code can remain relevant for decades.
Ruffles, Bows & Beautiful Drama
Then came the details.
Ruffles.
Bows.
Full skirts.
Sheer fabrics.
Long trains.
Statement jewellery.
This was not minimal fashion.
And nor was it trying to be.
Carolina Herrera has always embraced glamour, and Gordon's Spring/Summer 2027 collection made no attempt to apologise for it.
In an era where fashion can sometimes become deliberately understated, there was something refreshing about a collection that simply wanted to make clothes beautiful.
As Gordon himself reflected, there is a desire for beautiful, pretty things — and the collection embraced that idea rather than treating it as something unfashionable.
The Art of the Statement Dress
The eveningwear was perhaps where the collection reached its most dramatic.
Flowing gowns.
Sheer black.
Ruffles.
Oversized bows.
Long trains.
And beautifully constructed silhouettes.
The finale featured a dramatic sheer black gown with an oversized bow, worn by Karlie Kloss.
It was classic Herrera.
Elegant.
Dramatic.
And designed to make an entrance.
Because sometimes fashion isn't supposed to be subtle.
Sometimes you should walk into the room and let the dress do the talking.
Andy Warhol Meets Carolina Herrera
One of the most fascinating elements of the collection was the appearance of Andy Warhol's portrait of Carolina Herrera.
Warhol created his portrait of Herrera in 1979, before she launched her fashion house.
For Spring/Summer 2027, the house worked with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to license the portrait for fashion use for the first time.
The image appeared across select pieces, including an embroidered mini dress and accessories.
It was a wonderful connection between fashion, art and the history of the woman behind the brand.
And it demonstrated that fashion doesn't exist in isolation.
It borrows from art.
Architecture.
Music.
Film.
Photography.
And the people who shape culture.
A Little Bit of New Yorker
Another brilliant New York reference appeared through a collaboration with The New Yorker.
The collection incorporated the magazine cover from the week Carolina Herrera presented her first collection in 1981, translating it onto pieces including an embroidered dress and top.
It was clever.
It was nostalgic.
And it was unmistakably New York.
Rather than simply saying “we've been here for 45 years,” the collection showed us some of the cultural world that surrounded the house when it began.
Nearly 29,000 Yellow Tulips
Then there was the set.
And what a set.
The David H. Koch Theater was filled with 28,798 yellow tulips.
The flowers created a spectacular yellow corridor through the venue and referenced Herrera's love of flowers, New York springtime and the visual contrast between yellow taxis and blooming Park Avenue.
And there was a rather lovely detail behind them.
The tulips were not simply thrown away after the show.
They were intended to be repurposed as mulch for New York City parks.
So even the spectacular set had a life beyond the runway.
The Herrera Woman
Perhaps the most important part of the collection wasn't actually a garment.
It was the woman wearing it.
Gordon's Spring/Summer 2027 woman is confident.
Busy.
Elegant.
Independent.
She dresses because she enjoys dressing.
She doesn't apologise for wanting beautiful clothes.
She can wear a sharp suit in the morning.
A fabulous dress at lunch.
And something spectacular in the evening.
Her wardrobe isn't dictated by one particular trend.
It is dictated by personality.
And that is a very appealing idea.
What Can Tailoring Learn From Carolina Herrera?
Quite a lot.
Perhaps the biggest lesson is that structure and personality can exist together.
A tailored jacket can be elegant.
But it can also be colourful.
A white shirt can be classic.
But it can also be dramatic.
A pair of trousers can be sharply cut.
But they don't have to feel corporate.
And a suit can be perfectly structured without becoming stiff.
The difference comes down to the details.
The cloth.
The cut.

There is a tendency to think that modern fashion needs to be clever.
Conceptual.
Minimal.
Subversive.
But sometimes clothes can simply make you feel good.
Sometimes you can put on a beautiful suit and enjoy it.
Sometimes a dramatic dress is exactly what the occasion requires.
Sometimes a little colour is enough to change your mood.
And sometimes…
you should just dress up.
