New York Fashion Week, September 2026: Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2027
September has arrived, and with it comes another instalment of the fashion world's month-long journey through the international fashion capitals.
New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 officially ran from 10th to 15th September 2026, before the fashion spotlight moves on to London, Milan and Paris. But, as has become something of a tradition, Ralph Lauren got things underway a little earlier, presenting his latest collection on 9th September at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Manhattan.
And what a way to start.
Ralph Lauren's Spring/Summer 2027 collection once again demonstrated why the American designer remains synonymous with timeless style, tailoring and the art of creating clothes that feel both familiar and completely new.

Ralph Lauren: A New Take on Romance
For Spring/Summer 2027, Ralph Lauren described his collection as an “irreverent take on romance that creates a new elegance.”
It is an interesting description because, at first glance, many of the ingredients are unmistakably Ralph Lauren.
Tailoring.
Oxford shirts.
Waistcoats.
Neckties.
Denim.
Navy.
White.
American sportswear.
Classic elegance.
Yet the way these familiar ingredients were combined gave the collection a distinctly contemporary personality.
This season was less about following a particular fashion trend and more about taking classic pieces and allowing them to evolve.
That idea of personal style has long been central to the Ralph Lauren philosophy, and Spring/Summer 2027 continued that tradition.
Tailoring Takes Centre Stage
For us at A Hand Tailored Suit, it was the tailoring that immediately caught our attention.
Ralph Lauren played with proportion throughout the collection, contrasting generously cut trousers with much slimmer jackets and waistcoats.
Trousers appeared low-slung and dramatically voluminous, while tailored jackets provided structure above the waist. The result was a fascinating balance between relaxed and refined.
And then there were the waistcoats.
One particularly striking pinstripe waistcoat featured dramatic extended tails, creating an almost historical, Gilded Age-inspired silhouette before being brought firmly into the modern day.
It is precisely this kind of contrast that makes tailoring interesting.
A traditional garment doesn't necessarily need to remain traditional.
Change the proportion.
Change the fabric.
Change the styling.
Change the way it is worn.
Suddenly, something familiar becomes something completely new.
Navy, White & Summer Sophistication
The colour palette was another particularly strong element of the collection.
Navy and white provided the foundations, creating a clean, sophisticated backdrop that allowed the silhouettes and fabrics to take centre stage.
There were also touches of camel and crisp neutrals, while the collection introduced richer textures and decorative treatments elsewhere.
For Spring/Summer tailoring, this approach makes perfect sense.
A beautifully cut navy suit remains one of the most versatile garments a man or woman can own, while a crisp white summer suit can instantly transform the mood from corporate to resort, wedding or evening dressing.
The lesson?
Sometimes the most powerful statement is made by keeping things simple.
The Return of the Necktie
One of our favourite details from the collection was the return of the necktie.
But this wasn't simply a conventional business tie.
Ralph Lauren revisited the dramatically wide ties associated with the early days of his career. One look paired an oversized tie with a matching blue shirt and faded jeans — a playful reference to the four-inch-wide ties that helped establish Lauren's name in 1967.
Nearly six decades later, the tie is still having its moment.
Perhaps it never really went away.
It simply needed a little reminder that it could be fun.
Rugged Meets Refined
One of the defining characteristics of Ralph Lauren's aesthetic has always been the conversation between rugged American clothing and polished sophistication.
Spring/Summer 2027 continued that dialogue.
Workwear-inspired denim appeared alongside luxurious tailoring. A utilitarian denim jacket was dramatically finished with white feather detailing, while distressed jeans were styled with much more refined pieces.
Elsewhere, brocade, velvet, silk and intricate surface treatments brought a sense of craftsmanship and old-world luxury to the collection.
It was a reminder that dressing well doesn't necessarily mean looking overly polished.
Sometimes the most interesting outfits are created by putting opposites together.
Rugged and refined.
Old and new.
Relaxed and tailored.
That contrast is very much part of the Ralph Lauren vocabulary.
The Art of the Fabric
For anyone interested in clothing beyond simply the silhouette, there was plenty to discover in the fabrics and finishing.
Ralph Lauren incorporated hand-painted and burnout techniques into silk lamés and velvets, creating aged and weathered effects. Other pieces featured intricate woven construction, embroidery, coated sequins and spray-painted effects.
This emphasis on hand-finished detail is particularly interesting in an era increasingly dominated by digital design and mass production.
There is something rather special about clothing that looks as though somebody has actually worked on it.
Not simply designed it.
Not simply manufactured it.
Worked on it.

For us, it is difficult to look beyond the tailoring.
The combination of wide, relaxed trousers with slimmer tailored jackets and waistcoats creates an interesting silhouette for Spring/Summer 2027.
But we also love the return of the oversized necktie, the navy-and-white colour palette and the contrast between beautifully refined tailoring and distressed denim.
It is unmistakably Ralph Lauren.
But it doesn't feel stuck in the past.
And perhaps that is the trick to great style.
Know your classics.
Understand your heritage.
Then don't be afraid to do something different with them.
