Paris Fashion Week 2023 Highlights: Dior - A Hand Tailored Suit

Paris Fashion Week 2023 Highlights: Dior

Paris Fashion Week is taking place this year between the 25th of September and the 3rd of October, 2023, at many venues throughout the city. The biggest and most well-known brands, such as Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy, host their shows at historical locations such as the Carrousel du Louvre and the Grand Palais.

Dior's offering took place on the 26th of September at its usual home, the Jardin des Tuileries. The collection, titled "NOT HER", featured a pink and yellow striped catwalk and a video installation by artist Elena Bellatoni that had a rotating series of slogans comprising the funny ("Save your marriage, iron properly") to the serious ("I am not only a mother, wife, daughter. I am a woman."). The clothes had a black and navy-based colour palette with added florals and tie-dye. There were structured coats and jackets, white one-shouldered shirts, tasselled skirts, lace gowns, jumper dresses, dungaree dresses, and much more.

Take a look at the full runway show before we dive into some of the pieces that particularly caught our eye.

Outfit #1

Here is a beautifully tailored jacquard navy blue sleeveless double-breasted jacket dress. It has short but slim peak lapels and natural shoulders and is darted at the waist to create a slim hourglass shape.

Outfit #2

This shirt continues the navy blue theme. It is slim-fitting but with a relaxed cut. It has a lovely pussy bow collar and large pouffy sleeves that taper down to an oversized cuff. It was paired with a matching coloured flowing, minutely pleated silk skirt for a well-put-together but slightly less formal look.

Outfit #3

This evening coat is perfect to finish off any outfit. The more informal black and white bleach tie-dye-esque pattern was balanced by the more traditional boxy single-breasted cut, natural shoulders, flap pockets, and short but slim slight peak lapels.

Outfit #4

Among the collection were interesting new ways of wearing a classic white shirt. This shirt has the same slim but relaxed fit as the navy one above but has been given a modern asymmetrical off-the-shoulder twist. It was combined with slim-fitting but comfortable slouchy black slacks and flat black loafers with gold hardware.

Outfit #5

The classic trench coat was modified and redesigned by Burberry at London Fashion Week, and many other designers have followed suit this season. One of Dior's offerings included this stunning tan and black printed pattern with the traditional double-breasted closure, epaulettes, collar, rain shield, and flap pockets. However, it had been given an update with waist-cinching flaps and buckles rather than a belt, and the usually straight-cut skirt was more A-line, giving 50s-style vibes.
