This year Paris Fashion Week Men's Spring/Summer 24 took place between the 20th and 25th June 2023. The runways occurred all over Paris in unique venues, such as museums and gardens. Day three featured the Homme Plisse Issey Miyake runway at the Musee Des Arts Decoratifs. The collection was titled "Everyday, One of a Kind, Now and Hereafter" and was all about exploring the definitive essence of the Issey Miyake brand almost one year after his death. The brand leaned into its signature pleats motif and drew its colour palette from nature. Watch the entire runway below.
The Spring/Summer 24 runway was a collection of clothes with simple designs and vibrant dyes, such as pastel greens, browns, yellows, oranges, and even dark tones taken from natural materials, created for everyday use. Let's take a look at some of the pieces from the runway.
Outfit #1
This beautiful light orange lounge suit features the ubiquitous Issey Miyake pleats on loose, comfortable material. The trousers are wide-legged and slouchy, as is the shirt, but it has the look of a jacket in its construction with its cuffless sleeves, low V-neck, and wide-notch lapels, giving the outfit a variety of applications.
Outfit #2
This pleated sky blue 'dress' like garment was part of the Rectangle series that got its name from the construction of the clothes when laid flat. The rectangular garment, when worn, as seen here, becomes asymmetrical, with the edges hanging naturally around the body.
Outfit #3
This was an example of one of the more 'traditional' menswear looks on show. The navy blue trousers are made from classic suiting material and are slim-fitting and straight-cut. While still featuring the Issey Miyake pleats, the jacket also had a classic silhouette: a looser fit, two-button closure, natural shoulders, and slim-notch lapels.
Outfit #4
This interestingly patterned and pleated sleeveless jumpsuit was part of the Picturesque series that featured simple triangle, rectangle, and circle designs to represent nature in the form of animals, mountains, wind, and earth.
Outfit #5
A classic tan shirt was layered untucked over a pair of loose-fitting charcoal trousers incorporating the pleats. Over the top was the standout bright orange coat with a stand-up collar. This Wing Coat was inspired by the wings of birds and planes, with the back vent spreading in the wind, adding movement to the design, as does the lightweight fabric. This particular coat had layers on the shoulders to create a cape-like effect.
