Paris Haute Couture Week, January 2026: Chanel

Paris Haute Couture week is an exclusive fashion event held in Paris twice a year. It showcases custom-made, hand-crafted clothes from an elite group of fashion houses. Couture pieces often require hundreds of hours of labour. This year, for the January 2026 season, Haute Couture Week was held from January 26 to 29. Jonathan Anderson presented his first collection for Dior, and Matthieu debuted his for Chanel. It also featured the first Armani Privé show since the death of Giorgio Armani and the first couture collection for Valentino since the passing of Valentino Garavani.

New creative director Matthieu Blazy presented his first couture collection for Chanel on January 27 at the Grand Palais in Paris. The runway was transformed into an enchanted pink, spiralling willow forest for the event, complete with enormous mushrooms. Watch the full collection in the video below.

The Chanel Spring/Summer 2026 collection's themes were "freedom" and "metamorphosis," exploring the transformation from woman to bird, with birds depicted as the perfect symbol of freedom. The iconic Chanel bouclé suit was reinvented as a second skin made from lightweight silk mousseline, a material with an airy texture and sheerness. Trousers were made of the same material and given a trompe l'oeil effect to resemble denim jeans. Other garments included bird-like details, such as a black raffia coat, flapper dresses with peacock feathers, an evening gown with a downy bodice, tweeds with feathers attached, and streamers at the hems of skirts.
