On 27th February 2022, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (or SAG Awards) rolled out the red carpet once more in Los Angeles, California and welcomed many famous faces to the annual awards. The awards are handed out to those honoured for their achievements in television and film in the last year by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). For such a glamorous occasion, the celebrities were dressed up in some dazzling and dapper attire for the 28th SAG Awards and at A Hand Tailored Suit, we've selected our favourite attires from the gentlemen of the red carpet.
Will Smith
Will Smith was a winner on the night as he took home the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the film "King Richard". On the red carpet, he wore a three-piece Dolce & Gabbana suit that was a dark navy, styled with a pair of black shoes and black tie. His shirt was a light blue to complement the look as the jacket was finished with wide peak lapels and the top of the flapped pockets made in the contrasting black cloth. The waistcoat is double-breasted with ten buttons on the front (5x5 formation) fastened high on the chest and with a small notched hem. The matching tuxedo trousers include the classic satin stripe down the sides and a subtle centre crease down the front for a smart finish.
Andrew Garfield
A nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his role in the Netflix film "tick, tick...BOOM!", Andrew Garfield rocked up in a cool Yves Saint Laurent two-piece striped suit on the red carpet. The charcoal grey piece is finished with silver stripes to match the glamour of the occasion in this 70's silhouette, especially with the flared hem. Peak lapels and thin doublet jet pockets were included and the jacket fastened with a single button sitting low on the bodice. The shoulders are padded and create a great line across the top as the actor finishes the look with a black shirt with subtle stripe detailing also. The tie is the same design as the shirt; but left folded over where the knot will be for a unique style.
Jon Bernthal
Actor Jon Bernthal looked dashing in Dolce & Gabbana midnight blue as he attended the ceremony wearing a two-button velvet dinner jacket and accompanying blue bow tie. The notch lapels were contrasting in a lighter shade to mirror the blue hues on the jacket as the light hit the cloth, whilst designed with a classic welt and flapped pockets on the front. The trousers were a blue/grey shade also and tapered at the hem with the sharp centre crease. The shoulders were padded for a good fit on the shoulders and his dress shirt was a crisp white, designed with a covered button placket and pleated front for the evening.
Daveed Diggs
Wearing Versace on the red carpet for the awards, actor and rapper Daveed Diggs sported a fashionable grey two-piece suit and a black formal shirt to complete the look. The placement of the Versace print on both the jacket and trousers are symmetrical for a smarter finish and the flapped pockets below the waist perfectly aligned with the print. Notch lapels were the style on the front of the two-button jacket, falling down into a rounded hem sitting on top of the straight leg trousers. The silver shoes were a great choice to lift the greyscale colour of the suit even more and make it dazzle with the silver accessories he also wore.
Jeremy Strong
Actor Jeremy Strong was amongst the cast of the TV series "Succession" that won the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and for the ceremony, sported a rather summery suit in a fuchsia pink velvet. It was a two-piece design with four-button cuffs and two buttons on the front, the top one fastened. The centre front curved smoothly down into the hem and the trousers were a slim fit with a subtle break at the bottom. A welt pocket sat behind the peak lapels and the classic flapped pockets with curved edges were incorporated as the actor completed the looking with a white buttoned shirt and matching bow tie.
Kodi Smit-McPhee
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in the Netflix film "The Power of the Dog", Kodi Smit-McPhee went for a full white monochrome look at this year's SAG Awards. It was a Dior Men ensemble that featured a modern double-breasted jacket design - just the one button fastened it up. The trousers were slim and made with the centre crease to enhance the sharpness of the look. The jacket included notch lapels, a welt and two flapped pockets with four buttons on the cuffs, styled with crisp white shirt underneath and a silver necklace to add a touch of shine.
Lee Jung-jae
The Netflix series "Squid Game" was popular at this year's awards and Lee Jung-jae was honoured with Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role. For the night, the actor certainly dressed dapper in a two-piece navy suit from Gucci. The peak lapels on the blazer were wide but curved smoothly into the centre front and the top fastened button. It was a contrasting black detail along with the tops of the pockets, buttons on the front and cuffs, all brought together through the classic black bow tie. An extra ticket pocket was included with the two flapped pockets for that distinguishing detail, whilst the trouser hem ended just above the shoes and the centre creases nice and sharp.
Jeff Goldblum
Jeff Goldblum was one of the celebrities who presented an award onstage at the event in California and for the red carpet, kept it classy wearing a sleek two-piece black evening suit. The jacket had all the classical features expected - wide peak lapels, welt pocket, thin double jet pockets and a single fastening - and the trousers were kept smart with the side satin stripes on the legs. The hems brushed the ankles whilst on the jacket sleeves, four buttons were included on the cuffs, a fifth buttonhole left unfastened. The dress shirt was a black studded design and, to complete the look, the traditional black bow tie was secured underneath the standard collar.
Oscar Isaac
Nominated for his role in the series "Scenes From a Marriage", actor Oscar Isaac was up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series. His look of the night was quite a statement on the red carpet, styling a lilac shirt and bow tie with a brown tailored jacket and straight-cut black trousers. It was a mix-and-match Prada attire with the bow tie bringing in the evening element and the double cuffs on show for subtle sartorial elegance. The jacket was a notch lapel design with flapped pockets and no welt pocket on the chest, completed with a two-button front and black buttons, which partner well with the trousers.
Jared Leto
Wearing all Gucci for the evening's celebrations, actor Jared Leto was up for the award of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his appearance in the film, "House of Gucci." The baby blue suit was very much eye-catching as the actor wore the three-piece with an ivory shirt that had gathered cuffs, classic collar and a low wine red velvet ribbon tie. The double-breasted cut of the jacket also featured wide peak lapels that would curve nicely into the centre front, whilst two thin double jet pockets sat between the buttons. The shoulders were rounded for extra height, a detail strengthened as it draped over the shoulders and the waistcoat was finished with a low-scooped neckline. As five buttons featured on the jacket cuffs, four fastened the waistcoat as the look's extra flare came from the flared trousers themselves.
