This year's British Academy Television Awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 12, 2024. They were hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan. Winners included Timothy Spall in The Sixth Commandment, Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valley, Matthew Macfadyen in Succession, Jasmin Jobson in Top Boy, Joe Lycett in Late Night Lycett, and Mawaan Rizwan in Juice, among others. Of course, the award's nominees and notable industry names flooded the ceremony's red carpet. Let's take a look at some of the men's outfits.
Romesh Ranganathan
Comedian Romesh Ranganathan, co-host for the ceremony and winner of Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, wore a dapper midnight blue double-breasted suit with natural shoulders, peak lapels, and flap pockets. He paired it with slim-fitting, straight-cut trousers to balance out the jacket's boxiness and finished the outfit with a matching coloured tie and pocket square.
Joe Lycett
Comedian Joe Lycett stunned the red carpet in a flamboyant look. He donned an Elizabethan-style silver ruff and matching silver over-gown with enormously puffed sleeves and a voluminous draped body. The front opening of the gown showed a more modest pale cream dress shirt and black trousers that he had accessorised with a black lace and dangling pearl bow tie to match the pearls on the ruff. Joe completed the outfit with silver boots and a black fan.
Mawaan Rizwan
Actor and comedian Mawaan Rizwan, who won Best Male Performance in a Comedy for his role in Juice, chose a white waistcoat suit by Kenzo. The trousers were straight-cut but comfortably loose. The waistcoat sported text around the notch lapels and jetted pocket. He wore no shirt, showing a considerable amount of chest and a chunky silver chain necklace.
Brian Cox
Nominated for Best Leading Actor for Succession, Brain showed up to the ceremony sporting a gorgeous cream double-breasted tuxedo jacket featuring satin shawl lapels. He combined the coat with a white dress shirt, cream bow tie, and loose-fitting, straight-cut black trousers for some colour contrast and added interest.
Paapa Essiedu
Black Mirror actor Paapa Essiedu was also nominated for Best Leading Actor for The Lazarus Project. He chose a beautiful oversized, high-waisted, double-breasted midnight blue satin suit and sapphire blue silk shirt for his appearance. He kept the look casual with an unbuttoned collar, no tie, and gold-rimmed sunglasses.
