The Best Dressed Female Celebrities to Follow for Style Inspiration

In recent articles, we have looked at the best influencers to follow for advice and inspiration on your style. Here we are looking at some of the most sartorially blessed female celebrities to take inspiration from.

Princess Catherine of Wales

Catherine Middleton is not only a princess but a fashion icon. Her style is timeless and classy, featuring staples such as coat dresses and blazers with tailored shoulders, fitted in the torso, and cinched at the waist. She always dresses correctly for the occasion, mixes high-street and high-end pieces, and re-wears garments to remain sustainable and approachable. Even when "off-duty" in more casual attire, she chooses tailored items paired with relaxed pieces to look elegant and put together. Let's take a look at some of our favourite outfits that the princess has worn below.

At the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery in June 2023, Princess Catherine wore a beautiful white dress designed to look like a two-piece set by the high-street brand Self-Portrait. It followed all her style "rules": a long hemline, cinched waist, and a tailored element. The top of the dress was a jacket made of a boucle (textured heavy-weight wool) tweed and decorated around the collar, cuffs, pockets, and button placket with black piping and white embroidery. It had matching black and white decorative buttons and a white waist belt. The skirt was in a contrasting lightweight pleated chiffon, adding textural interest and flow.

Trouser suits are another of the princess' favourite go-to outfits for meetings and formal occasions. She chooses block colours to stand out from the crowd and enjoys jackets with peak lapels, flap pockets and one-button closures. She wore two similar Alexander McQueen suits within days of each other in June 2022. The first, a pink one worn for hosting a meeting with government ministers, had slim-fitting trousers. At the National Windrush Monument unveiling at Waterloo station, the second suit was white with high-waisted, wide-legged trousers.

In her more informal moments, such as here when taking her children to see the Royal International Air Tattoo, she still looks chic in navy blue slim-legged chinos, a simple white T-shirt, and a beige blazer with white pinstripes, padded shoulders, and peak lapels to create a smart but relaxed look.

Margot Robbie

A-list Australian actress Margot Robbie is on everyone's lips at the moment due to her smash hit Barbie movie. In the past, due to her relationship with Chanel, tweed suits and white lace dresses were her go-to looks on the red carpet. However, her style has recently become more relaxed but still elegant, focusing prominently on easy-to-wear tailoring. Her everyday looks are sleek, modern, and slightly masculine, and her red carpet outfits have showcased two-pieces and suits rather than the classic evening gown. Let's take a look at some of our favourite looks.

At the BAFTAs in late 2022, Robbie chose a simple but refined black suit by Chanel. The trousers were high-waisted and wide-legged. The textured double-breasted boucle jacket had natural shoulders, peak lapels, and statement gold cross buttons that complemented her gold accessories.

At the 2022 WSJ Innovator Awards, she also chose a suit, this time in white with a black lace shirt. The wide-legged trousers were very 70s inspired, featuring a large flare that started at the knee. The slim-fitting single-breasted jacket balanced out the wide trousers and had structured, padded shoulders, short and broad peak lapels, and statement gold buttons.

At the Babylon New York Screening, Margot chose a more relaxed look with a tailoring touch to elevate the outfit. She donned a simple scoop-neck white T-shirt and loose, high-waisted straight-legged jeans and finished the ensemble with an oversized charcoal pinstriped blazer with large-notch lapels and padded shoulders.

Kate Moss

1990s supermodel Kate Moss has always been a style icon from the moment she became famous for her distinctive looks and runway walk. In the 90s and 00s, she was known for her minimalistic style, slip dresses, mini skirts, and see-through outfits. She enjoyed boho, grunge, and rocker-style looks. She was a style chameleon. Below are some of her recent ensembles that you can take inspiration from and show Kate still loves and can pull off the 90s and 00s styles (after all, they are back in).

At the 2023 Met Gala, Moss wore a classic 90s staple, the slip dress. The champagne gown was given a modern twist with a sheer cover-up, ruching, and underwear-like lace detailing.

Kate fell back on a look she was famous for in the 1990s at the 2022 Innovator Awards. The sheer green gown that showed off her black underwear was shocking when she first wore similar dresses in the 90s but has been a staple of every celebrity wardrobe recently.

Moss showed she still enjoys a rocky grungy look at the Tommy Hilfiger Fall 22 New York Fashion Week show. This more casual outfit consisted of a minimalistic jean shirt dress accessorised with a snakeskin pattern belt worn on the hips, slouchy black leather boots, and an oversized black leather clutch bag.
