The Best Looks from the National Television Awards 2022

Last Thursday (13th October) it was the return of the annual National Television Awards as it celebrated its 27th event this year. Hosted at the OVO Arena at Wembley, we saw the red carpet rolled out with many nominees dazzling and sparkling in the spotlight to see if they would come away with an award. Hosted by Joel Dommett, there were many looks that caught our eye, so here are a few of the best NTA fashion looks from the night.

Sir Lenny Henry

Actor and comedian Sir Lenny Henry was one of the NTA recipients on the night and for the event, sported a lovely velvet jacket number. Velvet was a popular choice amongst a few of the gentlemen who attended, as Lenny Henry's was burgundy/purple in colour and single-breasted in cut. The flapped pockets were angled and the notch lapels were subtle and refined. Out of the four buttonholes on the cuffs, the top two were fastened as his white shirt cuffs were slightly showing to create that classic finished look. His narrow tie was a darker shade of purple to complement the jacket tones, finishing the look with dark grey straight-cut trousers with a sharp centre crease.

Actor Eric Shango looked dapper on the red carpet wearing a double-breasted attire with sharp golden buttons on the front. With a well-tailored line across the shoulders, it was a six-button design on the front with straight flapped pockets and contrasting peak lapels that on their own, were a combination of a matte and satin finish. It looks like an extra panel is cut into the design of the jacket with a line appearing underneath the bottom two buttons, creating a more prominent notched hem at the bottom. The trousers were matching with a tapered finish to the hem, allowing the to sit nicely over his velvet/suede shoes. To finish, a white shirt was worn underneath and the classic velvet bow tie.

Vicky McClure

Actress Vicky McClure dazzled in gold at the NTA's this year, wearing a square neckline gown that draped to the floor and was fitted to the waist. It was a gown that demonstrated how to use fabric manipulation and texture to enhance the use of one colour in an evening piece, with curved pleated lines following round from the shoulder down to the knee line. Below this, the gathering would then create natural drapes and further pleating that would expand to the hem, sitting gracefully on the red carpet to create quite a vintage-style moment.

Maya Jama

TV and radio presenter Maya Jama stunned in a floor-length white evening gown, designed with a one-shoulder line and train. The silver zip down the side was echoed through the smaller version on the sleeve to add that sharpness through the metallic shine, contrasting the matte finish of the gown itself. Draping appeared to be a feature on the sleeve side of the dress as it would lead to a high collar and the neck before draping round and across the back. Fitted from the waist down, a fabric train would capture the glamour of an evening event, combining a modern finish with the classic elegance.

Anton Du Beke

Professional dancer and "Strictly Come Dancing" judge Anton Du Beke was also another winner on the night, sporting a dark green velvet number for the event. The jacket itself was a classic single-breasted cut with a contrasting black wide satin shawl collar, with the pocket jets below matching this detail. The welt pocket was accessorised with a white satin pocket square to create that subtle contrast in texture and at least three buttons featured on the cuffs. His white evening shirt was fastened with black studs and a black velvet bow tie around the collar, worn with a pair of black straight-cut tuxedo trousers with a satin stripe down the sides.

TV director Dee Koppang looked smart in a tailored tuxedo on the red carpet during last week's NTA awards, wearing a black two-piece number with a classic white shirt underneath. The jacket was designed with a narrow satin shawl collar around the front, leading down to the low placement of the single button fastening. This front button matched those involved in the four-button cuffs on the jacket sleeves, the texture matching the double jets of the pockets and the contrasting satin waistband on the trousers. The cut of the trousers themselves were sitting slightly high on the waist with a tapered leg finishing above the ankle to not cover her heel straps.

Alex Horne

Comedian and "Taskmaster" creator Alex Horne donned the red carpet wearing a bright slate blue/grey two-piece suit with a bold wide red tie underneath, all colours that are echoed in his shoes. The jacket itself is also an example of a single-breasted cut with a narrow contrasting black satin shawl collar, the flapped pocket jets matching the collar and the buttons featured. The welt pocket was outlined through the minimal showing of the white pocket square, matching the classic collar shirt underneath. With a soft padded line across the shoulders, the trousers' centre crease juxtaposes that finish in a classic tailored finish on his slim trousers, the hem sitting over the shoe to create a noticeable break.

AJ Odudu

Television presenter AJ Odudu brought tailored glamour on the night, wearing a sleeveless jacket over the top of a pair of black shorts and a stunning golden cape draped over the shoulders. The jacket itself featured sharp peak lapels and a hidden fastening on the front to create a significant tall notched hem at the bottom. The cut had a slight fit to its silhouette, as by contrast, the glittery champagne golden cape draped behind dramatically for that wow moment. With noticeable padded shoulders too, these shoulders would be echoed on her short black satin finish cape that she also wore. This piece was almost level in length with the jacket to create such a chic piece, whilst the draping from the shoulders down would capture the light beautifully to strengthen this class and elegance of the look.

There were more stunning outfits spotted from those in attendance during the awards! Here are a few more of our favourites, which look was your favourite?
