The 43rd BRIT Awards took place on the 11th of February, 2023, at the O2 Arena in London. Hosted by British comedian Mo Gilligan, the ceremony is presented by the British Phonographic Industry to celebrate the best in British and international music. With four nominations each, Harry Styles and Wet Leg were the most nominated artists, with Harry Styles winning in all four categories. Other winners included Beyonce, Becky Hill, and The 1975. Of course, the celebrities were out in force on the red carpet showing off their glamorous attire. Here are some of the outfits that caught our eye.
Lewis Capaldi
Scottish star Lewis kept it casual on the red carpet, posing in a variety of comedic postures in a black t-shirt and loose-fitting black trousers paired with a maroon coloured jacket edged in bright yellow trim and decorated with embroidered stylised thistles (Scotland's national emblem).
Stormzy
Rapper Stormzy rocked up looking dapper as ever in a pearl grey wool Givenchy slim-fitting single-breasted suit with a white shirt unbuttoned at the collar. The trousers were straight-legged, accentuating his height. The jacket featured traditional straight jetted pockets and notch lapels but was elevated by a harness detail around the shoulders and a black metal button, giving this classic menswear a more contemporary feel.
Harry Styles
Known for experimenting with his clothes, to no one's surprise, singer Harry arrived at the ceremony wearing an eccentric look. He donned 70's-style black velvet flared trousers, a coordinating black velvet jacket with peplum detailing, padded shoulders, and wide satin lapels designed by Nina Ricci. He chose to go shirtless, showing a hint of bare chest and a delicate gold cross, and accessorised with an enormous black flower choker.
Tom Grennan
Best-selling debut album singer-songwriter Tom also chose an all-black suit and no shirt, like Harry, for this year's award show but with an asymmetrical twist. The trousers were quite standard, being straight-legged and relatively loose-fitting. The jacket, however, was the attention-grabbing moment of the look. One side of the lapels was left folded up, giving a view of the underside and creating an exciting shape around the neckline with the peak. The other side was folded down, showing the two textured lapel of satin and wool and accentuated with a silver pin. He finished the unusual outfit with an 80s-style pair of black lace gloves.
Sam Ryder
TikTok sensation Sam took to the red carpet in a mint green loose-fitting single-breasted suit. The peak lapels had a wavy pattern for interest that matched the trim around the more informal patch pockets of the jacket. He kept the more casual approach to wearing a suit by pairing it with a patterned t-shirt and grey-green trainers.
And a special mention for Sam Smith
Of course, no article about the fashion of the evening could be written without mentioning Sam's unusual outfit choice! Sam donned a shiny black latex inflatable jumpsuit with enormous shoulders and legs. We were left wondering how on earth he managed to sit down!
