The Devil Wears Prada 2 London Premiere

The Devil Wears Prada 2 London Premiere

The London premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 took place at Leicester Square nearly 20 years after the first film’s phenomenal success. The original cast members, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, reprised their roles. New additions include Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley, Kenneth Branagh, and Justin Theroux, along with a host of glittering cameos from celebrities such as Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga. The intricacies of the plot have been kept tightly under wraps, but the main premise is that Andy (Anne Hathaway) returns to Runway as Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) tries to navigate the magazine’s position amid a decline in legacy media publishing. Miranda’s former assistant Emily (Emily Blunt) is now the head of a luxury brand that has the funding to ensure Runway’s survival. The cast gathered on the red carpet on the beautifully sunny evening of April 22 to promote the film's May 1 release. Let’s take a look at their outfits.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway plays Andy Sachs. For her walk down the red carpet, she donned a midnight-blue velvet, strapless, tuxedo-corset hybrid cutout dress by Versace, styled with a sleek high ponytail.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep, who plays Miranda Priestly, wore a Parda ensemble as a nod to the movie’s name. She donned a white pussybow blouse with a diamond brooch at the collar, tucked into beautifully tailored straight-cut black trousers, and completed with a scarlet silk jacket and matching heels. She also wore black sunglasses, possibly in tribute to Anna Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue, and her character’s supposed inspiration.

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt, starring as Emily Charlton in the film, arrived at the premiere in a custom Balenciaga two-piece. The dome-shaped bustier transformed into a floor-grazing train, hanging from exaggerated pannier hips, with a high front hemline that revealed skinny cigarette trousers and low red heels. She completed the look with a pearl-and-diamond choker necklace and matching rings.

Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci plays Miranda Priestley’s long-time right-hand man, Nigel Kipling. He attended the showing in a classic black-and-white pinstriped double-breasted suit by designer Paul Smith, with a subtly polka-dotted grey tie and a white shirt.

Kenneth Branagh

New addition to the cast, Kenneth Branagh, plays Stuart, Miranda’s husband. He walked the red carpet in a custom navy-blue Giorgio Armani double-breasted suit, a crisp white dress shirt, and a vintage striped Armani tie. He added a white pocket square to complement his shirt.

Simone Ashley

Another new addition to the cast, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley, who plays Miranda’s assistant Amari Mari, stood out from the rest of the stars, choosing bright pink rather than the red, black, navy blue, and white that dominated the carpet. The Mugler dress featured a single shoulder, waist-cinching belt, and sculptural split skirt.

Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace, who cameoed as herself, attended the event in her own fashion house’s couture. She donned a black off-the-shoulder column gown with a structured corset bodice, which she accessorised with layered diamond necklaces and a chunky diamond bracelet.
