At the Alexandra Palace in London, the first ever Earthshot Prize ceremony took place last night (Sunday 17th October 2021) as part of an annual event between 2021 and 2030 that seeks to award those with ground-breaking resources and innovations that will help tackle the biggest environmental issues our planet faces today. The finalists were announced last month and last night, five winners were selected by The Earthshot Prize Council with recognition and support going towards their plans to help our planet, with more solutions being awarded over the next few years. Set up by the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Sir David Attenborough in 2020, they were in attendance last night which saw a few stars announce winners and perform too, all encouraged to re-wear an outfit as part of being sustainable, and as outfits should be. Let's see who wore what on the green carpet, starting with:
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge glistened as they were pictured arriving on the green carpet in a velvet green evening jacket and pleated evening gown.
Prince William's dark green jacket was made with a 4-button cuff on the sleeves and peak lapels, two flapped pockets and a double vent. The fastening was a single button design with a forest green pocket square just showing through the top of the welt pocket, the padded shoulders and rounded hem softly finishing the jacket. The Duke styled his jacket with a black roll neck underneath and slim trousers too with crisp centre crease on the front. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, opted for a rewear of her Alexander McQueen ice blue pleated evening gown made with capped sleeves and boat neckline. The gown was floor-length and accessorised with a silver waist belt.
Dermot O'Leary and Dee Koppang
Dermot O'Leary was one of the hosts of the awards televised on BBC One as he attended with his wife Dee Koppang, both looking smartly dressed. Dermot's suit was a black evening two-piece with a thin shawl collar on the jacket and a one-button fastening. Thin double jet pockets and a black pocket square could also be seen on the presenter's jacket as his cream shirt of choice was pleated before accessorising with his black bow tie. Dee's attire was a midnight blue velvet jacket with notch lapels and a two-button cuff, the single button fastening positioned low on the jacket. Her tapered trousers were cropped and the hem above the ankles, accessorised with a black belt and white shirt with a curved collar.
Radio and TV presenter Clara Amfo was also the host of the event last night and for it, opted for a chic white two-piece suit created with bold colourful textile patterns embellished and situated across both pieces. The jacket featured flapped pockets and notch lapels with structured shoulders and a low two-button fastening. The trousers are high-waisted and a straight leg fit with the hem falling below the ankle, styling the attire with a black scoop neck top underneath.
Youtuber and muscian KSI was one of the acts to perform during the awards last night and on the green carpet, rocked up in a sharp double-breasted suit with a subtle texture in the cloth. The jacket is a six-button front with large contrasting orange patch pockets. The patch pockets are designed with basketweave design and the same pattern can be seen centralised on his trousers in a large panel. The orange is picked up further through his orange shirt, fully fastened and accessorised with his metal chain underneath the collar. The peak lapels are sharp and the shoulders almost relaxed with extra pockets on the sides of his trousers.
Premier League footballer Mo Salah was also in attendance at the Earthshot Prize as he presented the first award of the night wearing a evening black two-piece suit with contrasting wide blue velvet peak lapels. On the jacket are two thin double jet pockets to match the lapels also, the single-button fastening made in the same colour and cloth of the suit. The feature 4-button cuffs with a double vent on the back of the piece and his dress shirt made with black dress studs and a thin black bow tie. His trousers were slim cut with a break in the ankle as the hem just brushes the tops of his shoes.
Actress Emma Watson dazzled in a recycled white tulle dress on the green carpet as she also was on of the stars who presented an award last night. It had an asymmetric hemline which was shorter her left side and draped down to the floor diagonally to the right. The neckline was made up of floral lace which edged the top of the dress elegantly whilst draping round to a low scooped back. Underneath she wore black trousers fitted to the knee and with with wide flares at the hem to continue the dramatic shape this attire presents.
Sir David Attenborough
Sir David Attenborough was on stage during the event last night as one of the founders of the awards and as one of the members of The Earthshot Prize Council. The broadcaster kept it classic wearing a two-piece evening tuxedo with wide peak lapels and traditional black bow tie with a white dress shirt. A white pocket square is folded crisply and tucked into the welt pocket whilst other features of the piece include double jet pockets and padded shoulders for a clean finish.
Actress Emma Thompson rewore her blue two-piece suit she wore during the acceptance of her knighthood in 2019 to last night's Earthshot Prize, styled with a matching blue scoop neck shirt underneath. The jacket is a double-breasted cut with a six-button front situated from the waist up. Wide flapped pockets feature below the waist and the peak lapels cut in a contrasting black cloth to match the black buttons. The shoulders are structured and rounded to give a bit more shape to the attire and contrast the sharp hem line of the jacket. Her trousers are wide leg and defined through the contrasting black side stripe. The suit is made a bit more casual through the wide turned up hem on the trousers as they just brush the floor and cover her trainers.
David and Jessica Oyelowo
Husband and wife acting duo David and Jessica Oyelowo were also in attendance for the evening event with Jessica wearing a black long-sleeved ruffled neck top tucked into an A-line floral skirt. The hem falls mid-length to the knee and her sleeves finishing with a delicate flare on the cuffs. David's suit is blush pink in colour and a double-breasted two-piece with classic features including peak lapels and flapped pockets. The front is fastened with two of the six buttons and his welt pocket accessorised with a pocket square. His trousers are slim with a flat front and the hem finishing just above his shoes. His shirt of choice is a crisp white piece with the shirt collar notched for an extra sharp look.
Brazilian footballer Dani Alves wore a sequined number to the occasion last night as he attended with his wife Joana Sanz. His jacket is a one-button design with peak lapels, padded shoulders and double jet pockets that match the contrasting cloth of the welt pocket. From afar the jacket dazzles thanks to its scattered sequin panels on the jacket front and sleeves also, his slim trousers kept plain in choice of design but still elevated through the satin side stripe. Joana's choice of attire was a pink sweetheart neckline fitted floor-length gown, one which also dazzled too thanks to its sequinned design and delicate one-shoulder cape draped behind her.
There were some great looks reworn by the stars who were at The Earthshot Prize awards last night, including a few more below featuring MP William Hague's three-piece evening suit and Matthew Pinsent's pinstripe jacket, attending with their wives Ffion Hague and Demetra Pinsent.
