The Final Week of Venice Film Festival 2022: The Gent's Style - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Final Week of Venice Film Festival 2022: The Gent's Style

As the 2022 Venice Film Festival drew to a close last weekend (Saturday 10th September), we have been treated to a vast amount of glamour and statement tailoring from the attendees on the red carpets. From the final week of the festival, we've narrowed down some of our favourite attires from the gentlemen of the red carpets, including the closing ceremony on the final day.

Regé-Jean Page

Actor Regé-Jean Page kept it minimal for this red carpet on day 6 of the film festival, sporting a peak lapel two-piece suit, possibly very dark navy in colour. The lapels are contrasting as are the fabric buttons on the centre front and overlapping four-button cuffs, along with the jet pockets on the body also. The welt pocket sits an a slight angle and flat against the chest as a brooch is styled on the lapel for the main accessory. Underneath, he sports a blue Nehru collar shirt which appears to have a velvet placket to provide extra texture to the overall look, the cuffs of this shirt also showing through the jacket for that classic style. The trousers are tapered at the hem and are finished with the centre crease and evening satin stripe down the side, an element which really shines in the Venetian sunshine.

Musician David Blank looked very cool on the red carpet in the final week, sporting this dramatic silver coat that's finished with a shawl collar and tall single jet pockets on the sides. Its metallic shine is toned down through the addition of the appliqués on either side. With the maxi-length coat left unfastened, it leaves a dramatic train almost behind him as he walks, showing off the black lining inside. It also shows the trousers more, cut in a straight leg, pockets on the front and a slight pleating to the waist. The hem sits over the shoes as a crisp white shirt with an elongated collar tucked into the waistband and the collar fastened with a distinctive button in the centre.

Social media personality Khaby Lame kept it classic on the red carpet as he donned a navy blue two-piece suit, accessorising with a black bow tie under the collar. The jacket features a two-button front with a contrasting top buttonhole situated underneath the contrasting notch lapels. The welt pocket sits on an angle on the chest as the two flapped pockets are cut straight below the waist. There is a slight rounded shape to the shoulders for extra height and to soften the top line, before leading down into the four-button cuffs. It looks like a black cummerbund has been worn around the waist, whilst the black waistband is another contrast detail in the navy ensemble. The trousers are slim with a break above the shoe and the evening stripe down the sides for that classic finish, wearing a double cuff white shirt to complete the look.

Noah Jupe

Shimmering on the red carpet on day 8 of the Venice Film Festival was actor Noah Jupe, whose suit was a funky take on the classic evening tux. The cloth was created with a micro multi-coloured check that went into the construction of the contrasting shawl lapel jacket, which itself had a slight oversized fit to it. The shoulders fell slightly below the natural position to create this silhouette, the fastening placement almost level with the top line of the trouser waistband. The pockets were well disguised in the jacket, whilst the trousers were cut in the slim-leg style and a black low-neck shirt was tucked into the waist.

Wearing a timeless black evening suit was actor Hugh Jackman sporting a two-piece number with a three-button stud evening shirt and bow tie underneath. The shawl collar was wide and designed with a buttonhole on the one side, sitting over the angled welt pocket before leading into the one-button fastening. Double jet pockets featured below the waist as the jacket cuffs were finished with four buttons and in the gauntlet style. It looks as if a black cummerbund shows slightly through the hem of the jacket, wearing it above a pair of slim-cut trousers that are finished with the distinctive evening side stripes.

Yeman Crippa

Long-distance runner Yeman Crippa attended the red carpet during the ninth day of the event and for it, donned a blue patterned statement jacket. The peak lapels were of a standard width and didn't overpower the padded top line across the shoulders. With a one-button front and a thin double jet pocket either side on the jacket, the blue trousers were slim-cut and sat above the shoes. The jacket was sharply outlined through the subtle showing of the shirt's white cuffs, this itself being constructed in the Nehru collar style to contrast the peak lapels. A small lapel pin is worn on the one side to complete the look.

Matteo Oscar Giuggioli

Keeping it monochrome on the red carpet was actor Matteo Oscar Giuggioli, who wore a shawl collar white two-piece suit for the event. Pairing it with a wing collar evening shirt and bow tie, a jewelled brooch was worn on the collar to further define the look. The jacket was a one-button style with flapped pockets either side and four fabric buttons on the jackets. The centre button placement was perfect for elongating the body and creating this tall hem that was rounded at the bottom, sitting over the sharp centre creases on the trousers. The shoulders were slightly rounded for that soft finish and the trouser hem falling to finish over the actor's black boots.

Lapo Elkann

Businessman Lapo Elkann donned a dark green double-breasted attire for the final day of Venice Film Festival, styling it with a white evening shirt and large black bow tie under the collar. The jacket itself was a statement thanks to the wide contrasting black peak lapels, balancing out the shoulders well before falling into two-button cuffs. The buttons on the front were covered in black cloth also, whilst the welt pocket on the chest and double jet pockets lower down were cut from the same green cloth. The trousers were a straight-cut silhouette with the classic evening side stripe on the legs, centre crease on the front and the hem sitting just below the ankles. To finish off the suit, a white pocket square was arranged in quite an artistic way to match the shirt but also to capture the elegance of the evening.

Carl Malapa

Also spotted during the final night of the film festival was actor Carl Malapa wearing a striped double-breasted number in blue. The jacket was finished with six buttons on the front (3x3 formation) with the peak lapels a standard width and the points rounded. It was cut with a double vent on the back and four buttons on the cuffs, flapped pockets below the waist and the welt pocket pattern-matching on the chest. The striped black and blue design was enough to create a stand-out look, so the styling of the black open collar shirt was quite minimal to ensure it wasn't too overpowering. The trousers were a slim cut with possibly a flat front and the hem sitting just on the shoe to cause a break just above the ankle.

Alessandro Borghi

Wearing a vintage floral number on the final day was actor Alessandro Borghi, who donned a double-breasted suit with a light blue shirt worn open collar underneath, complementing the colour included in the floral pattern. The softness of the cloth was then contrasted through the statement black peak lapels and buttons on the front arranged in a 3x3 style. The shoulders were padded and quite distinctive to balance the lapels out as the sleeves fell into a five-button finish, echoing the side stripe on the trousers. The trousers are a straight-leg cut with possibly a little flare at the hem as they sit over the boots for a cool finish.

It was another successful Venice Film Festival that delivered a portfolio of glamour and style indeed amongst those who attended. Here are a few more looks from the final week that we also thought quite striking, which look from the whole event was your ultimate favourite?
