The Golden Globes 2024: Men's Style - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Golden Globes 2024: Men's Style

Last night, the eighty-first Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The Golden Globes celebrate the best of film and television from the past year and were dominated by the film Oppenheimer, which took home five gongs, and the television series Succession, which won four trophies. The number one film of 2023, Barbie, was also celebrated, as was BeefKillers of the Flower Moon, and Poor Things.

Of course, anyone who is anyone in Hollywood strutted the red carpet and showed off their sartorial style. Although most of the women of the evening dressed in elegant, ladylike, and traditional red-carpet attire, there has been a shift in what is deemed appropriate in male apparel. Men are moving away from the classic black tux and bow tie and becoming more experimental in their dress. Let's take a look at some of the stand-out looks from the night.

Barry Keoghan

Irish actor Barry Keoghan of Saltburn, Dunkirk, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer fame rocked up to the red carpet dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton plaid suit. The unique suit in red and black had a punk edge to it with a cropped jacket and slim-cut trousers, a pearl trouser chain, and matching pearl button detailing. He pinned a gold and enamel brooch to his left peak lapel and chose a complementary pearl and ruby necklace to adorn his spread club collar rather than a bow tie.

Lenny Kravitz

American singer and actor Lenny Kravitz picked up a nomination for Best Original Song. He mixed vintage and contemporary in his red carpet look. At first glance, you would be forgiven for thinking he had donned a classic tuxedo - minus a shirt. However, the outfit was actually a 70-inspired Alexander McQueen jumpsuit with wide-legged flared trousers, a cropped jacket, and modern, side-revealing cut-outs. He finished his ensemble with his signature dark shades.

Timothée Chalamet

Wonka nominee Timothée Chalamet chose a monochromatic black look for his suit, adding dimension and interest with texture and sparkle. He combined skinny black trousers with a black button-down left open to reveal his chest and his dazzling Cartier diamond necklace. Over the top, he donned a sequin embroidered blazer by Celine.

Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy won a Golden Globe for his performance in Oppenheimer. He went down a more traditional route in a classic slim-fitting black Saint Laurent suit and white pleated dress shirt, but he kept the outfit more casual by foregoing a tie or bow tie. He finished the look with a white pocket square and pointed patent boots.

Pedro Pascal

Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal sported a slightly unusual accessory on the red carpet - a sling! He made light of his injury, which didn't detract from his simple but elegant look of black tailored trousers, chunky patent boots, and a crisp black shirt decorated with thick white embroidered threads that created an unusual texture.
