The ninety-fifth Acadamy Awards, better known as the Oscars, took place on March 12th 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood to honour the best movies released in 2022. Unusually, the Oscar's red carpet was not, in fact, red this year but a champagne colour! Nevertheless, stars flocked to it en masse in a wide array of opulent outfits for the biggest night in celebrity dressing.
This year, the men experimented with their suits subtly with embroidery, departures from the classic dress shoe, or an unusual colour choice. Here are a few of the outfits that caught our eye.
The star of Black Adam, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, showed off his softer side in a ballerina-pink satin double-breasted Dolce & Gabbana jacket with natural shoulders, shawl lapels, and flap pockets. He paired it with classic black trousers, a white dress shirt, and an oversized black bow tie.
Paul Mescal, nominated for Best Actor for Aftersun, rocked up on the champagne carpet in a 70s-inspired suit from Gucci. The double-breasted white tuxedo jacket with its classic jetted pockets and wide peak lapels was combined with wide-legged flared trousers. He donned a red rose on his lapel for a vivid pop of colour against the black and white.
Nominated for Best Supporting Actor for The Banshees of Inisherin, Barry Keoghan made an impact on the red carpet in his lilac-coloured single-breasted slim-fitting suit. The wide-notch lapelled and flap-pocketed jacket featured fun flower-shaped buttons in white that perfectly echoed the white dress shirt and bow tie that he paired with it.
Singer Lenny Kravitz, who performed during the In Memoriam segment of the ceremony, also brought the 70s to the red carpet in a black silk Saint Laurent jumpsuit. The ensemble featured a plunging top that showed off his chest and wide-legged flared trousers with a wide cummerbund. He accessorised the look with layered chunky silver chains and a cross pendant.
Nominated for Best Actor for Elvis, Austin Butler headed down the more traditional route with his look. He opted for a classic black double-breasted tuxedo with contrasting satin wide peak lapels, a timeless white dress shirt, and a black bow tie. He balanced the boxiness of the jacket with slim-fitting, straight-legged trousers and finished the look with a white pocket square.
