The Oscars 2024, Celebrity Style: Men - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Oscars 2024, Celebrity Style: Men

The 96th Academy Awards (Oscars) took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, at 4 P.M. Pacific Time (11 P.M. UK time) on the 10th of March 2024. It was presented by Jimmy Kimmel and honoured films released in 2023. The movie Oppenheimer swept the board, collecting gongs for Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr), Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Original Score (Ludwig Goransson). Other winners included Emma Stone for Best Actress in Poor Things, Da'Vine Joy Randolph for Best Supporting Actress in The Holdovers, Billie Eilish and Finneas for Best Original Song for "What Was I Made For?" in Barbie, and The Zone of Interest for Best International Feature Film.

Many men donned the traditional black tuxedo for the cream of the awards season, but some mixed it up a bit. This award season has seen a more relaxed attitude towards men's attire, with unbuttoned shirts and a lack of ties. A few celebrities continued the trend, and others added interest with colour choices. Let's take a look at some of the men's outfits.

Cillian Murphy

Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy chose a classic black Versace tuxedo paired with tapered trousers, a black silk bow tie to match his lapels, and a crisp white shirt. Brooches were popular among the men at the Oscars, and Cillian pinned a bespoke gold one by Sauvereign to his left lapel.

Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr, who took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, also chose a black tuxedo jacket. His was designed by Saint Laurent and featured on-trend 70s-style flared trousers. He combined it with an unusual tie-top black shirt and a gold brooch on his left lapel.

Matthew McConaughey

Actor Matthew McConaughey mixed things up a bit by donning a brown silk Versace Tuxedo and matching waistcoat. He combined it with straight-cut black trousers to echo his black silk lapels and bow tie. This look was also finished with a brooch in yellow gold and diamonds by Cindy Chao.

Ryan Gosling

Best Supporting Actor nominee for Barbie, Ryan Gosling, went for the glam but relaxed approach to wearing a black suit. He chose a shawl lapel Gucci jacket edged in sparkling crystals, a matching shirt also edged in crystals around the button placket and collar, and left the shirt partially unbuttoned with no tie.

Dwayne Johnson

Former wrestler and actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson rocked up to the red carpet in a steel-coloured satin suit and a maroon shirt also made of satin. He, too, left his shirt unbuttoned and tieless for a laid-back look that showed a hint of his tattoos and layered gold necklaces.
