The Return To Work: Inspiration For Your Office Style - Gents Edition

More and more of us have now returned back to the office or are preparing to do so after what has been a very long time away. With working from home, loungewear and comfy clothing has been the popular choice of attire! But to make you feel more ready for that return to a busy working environment, we at A Hand Tailored Suit have collated some fine examples of gentlemen's workwear attire to ensure you're ready for the office life once more - and there's only one place to begin...

Sharp Suits

A well-tailored, fitted suit (either single or double-breasted) is always great to make you feel very determined for the day ahead. The feeling you get as soon as you throw on your best suit or blazer is great, especially if you know you have a busy work day ahead of you. Wearing a suit heightens the confidence and that is a a great feeling to have for your first day back in the office after a long time away.

The pinstripe suit is a classic. Its strong style of either very wide stripes or a design more compact has always been associated as a powerful work suit. The common colours of the suit associated are either blue, grey or black, but more varieties are being worn. The colour of the stripe itself can be white, red, a lighter blue, and many accessorising options for the tie and pocket square to pick out the design. It works well in a single-breasted or double-breasted cut, two-piece or three-piece.

Of course, check or plain cloth suits are always a great choice to have for a suit for work, in a two or three-piece style and with either notch or peak lapels. Opt for a patterned waistcoat with a plain jacket and trousers or stick to the same design for a sleek look, choosing a great shirt and patterned tie to lift the office look. Never forget to have interior pockets in the jacket.

Shirts

Never forget a smart formal shirt for that return to office. A classic white shirt never goes amiss, but other colours such as blue and pink are classic examples of coloured work shirts available in a plain weave, twill or Oxford: but there's always bolder colour and patterns to choose from if that's more you, and there's always that one perfect tie to match a few of your shirts. Long sleeved with double or single cuffs, standard collar shirts or band collar, what is your style preference?

For those dress-down days in the office or for a slight more casual feel to the working wardrobe, a crew neck or roll neck cashmere/merino knit can always be layered over the top of a smart shirt and underneath the blazer, a more practical choice too to keep you warm during your commute in the colder season.

Overcoats

It's only fitting to include a smart overcoat when on your daily commute to work as the cooler weather begins to set in soon. Trench coats are great for those wetter days or during a crisp Autumn morning, but you can't go wrong with a cashmere/wool overcoat either. Single-breasted or double-breasted, an overcoat just looks as smart as the main suit itself and always great to have one prepared for the return to office.

Choosing either a plain or patterned coat will work with many suits. Wear a coat the same colour as the suit for a monochromatic style, choose a contrasting colour to your suit or select an overcoat with a check pattern worn open to show the entire professional ensemble: and pop that collar for an extra sartorial touch.
