The Styles of Aintree Ladies Day - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Styles of Aintree Ladies Day

Ladies Day is the second day of the Grand National Festival at the Aintree racecourse in Liverpool. This year it took place on Friday, 14th April 2023. One of the most significant fashion events in Liverpool's calendar, men and women turned out in their most eye-catching outfits. Despite The Jockey Club lately abolishing dress codes to make the day more accessible, it didn't stop the majority of attendees from dressing to the nines. Women's outfits ranged from suits to jumpsuits to vividly coloured dresses, with many donning the traditional elaborate hats and fascinators that have become synonymous with the day.

Style Awards

The Grand National organisers held their own Style Awards for the day, handing out first, second and third places.

In first place was Sian Jones, who wore a tangerine-coloured tea-length dress with exquisite embroidered and appliqued flowers and foliage in green, white, and purple. She continued the floral theme with flower-covered open-toe heeled sandals and a lilac-coloured flower crown that echoed the purple flowers on her dress.

Second place was awarded to Steve Mulholland, who looked incredibly dapper in a slim-fitting single-breasted black suit with notch lapels, padded shoulders and flap pockets. For contrast and colour, he paired it with a double-breasted cream waistcoat. He finished the look with a white spread collar shirt and a black tie to match his suit and accessorised with a silver lapel chain and tie clip.

Last but definitely not least, in third place was Carmen Lee. She jumped on the current asymmetric and sheer trends with a lavender tea-length dress. The bodice and single bishop sleeve were see-through and enhanced by cutout details and an oversized ruffle at the left shoulder. The skirt was tightly pleated at the waist, giving a beautiful 50s-style flair. She adorned her beach-waved hair with a violet-coloured tulle fascinator and completed the outfit with nude high-heeled sandals and a matching YSL clutch.

Here are a few of the other outfits that caught our attention.

These ladies certainly attracted our attention with their bright red and vivid fuchsia dresses. With its jaunty angle and dried blooms, the scarlet flower cutout fascinator made a bold statement.

This lady's asymmetric sapphire blue dress with large white polka dots, flared skirt, white satin gloves, pearl-encrusted clutch, and matching fascinator that tied all of the elements together certainly stood out from the crowd.

Finally, this pair of ladies drew our eye with their colourful umbrellas, vivid dresses, and feathered hats.
