The Ballon d'Or (or 'Golden Ball' in English) is an annual football award that took place this year on the 30th of October. It has been presented by the French magazine France Football since 1956. The Ballon d'Or is considered football's most respected and valuable individual award. Coaches, captains, and football journalists vote for who they deem to have been the best-performing male player of the previous football season. This year, Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi won the award for a record eighth time. Take a look at the moment that he won.
Of course, all the nominees and football players of note were out in force at the award ceremony. Let's take a look at the best-dressed attendees.
Argentinian and Inter Miami football player and eight-time winner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or Lionel Messi rocked up to the ceremony in an absolutely gorgeous midnight blue suit. The jacquard-checked single-breasted jacket featured contrasting plain peak lapels, natural shoulders, a one-button closure, and flap pockets. He paired it with a traditional white dress shirt and black bow tie.
Former English footballer and co-owner of Inter Miami and Salford City David Beckham also chose blue for his suit. He sported a flap-pocketed double-breasted style with an asymmetrical single-button closure. The peak lapels were in a contrasting silk fabric that matched his slim tie.
Jude Bellingham, who plays for the England national team and Real Madrid, chose a modern take on the classic black tux. The black suit had a double-breasted jacket with all the usual components: contrasting peak lapels, jetted pockets, and natural shoulders. However, the gold buttons drew attention to the jacket, and the trousers were enormously wide-legged and reminiscent of street-style clothes.
Brazilian and Real Madrid footballer Vinicius Junior really showed his individual style in an orange velvet tuxedo jacket with black satin lapels. He matched his jacket to his belt and orange suede shoes. He echoed the black of his lapels in his slim-fitting, straight-cut trousers, black shirt, and black silk bow tie.
Dibril Cisse, a former French footballer, also showed off his flamboyant fashion sense. He matched his blue hair to his shoes. His suit was a bright white printed with grey birds. He chose not to wear a shirt, leaving his bare chest and a multitude of tattoos on display.
