Timeless Elegance in the Jewellery Quarter: Liam & Megan’s Black-Tie Wedding Suit

Timeless Elegance in the Jewellery Quarter: Liam & Megan’s Black-Tie Wedding Suit

Planning a wedding is a journey of a thousand details, but few decisions are as impactful as the suit you wear when you say "I do." For Liam, a groom traveling in from Harborne, the vision for his November wedding at the stunning Hampton Manor in Henley-in-Arden was clear: a sophisticated, monochromatic aesthetic that defines "Black & White" excellence.

To bring this vision to life, Liam stepped into our studio at A Hand Tailored Suit in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. Here is a look behind the scenes at the design of a masterfully crafted three-piece tuxedo.

The Fabric: Italian Excellence

For a high-stakes winter wedding, fabric choice is everything. We selected a premium Black VBC (Vitale Barberis Canonico) wool for the entire ensemble. Known for its soft drape and rich finish, it provides the perfect canvas for a luxury tuxedo that needs to look as sharp at the end of the night as it did at the altar.

The Design: A Study in Contrast

The "Black & White" theme allowed us to play with textures and traditional tailoring rules.

The Jacket

  • Style: A single-button (SB1) front with a bold Peaked Lapel.
  • The Details: To elevate the formality, we utilized a Contrast Black Satin on the lapels.
  • Functionality: Slanted flapped pockets add a modern touch, while the double vent ensures Liam can move with ease throughout the day at Hampton Manor.
  • Finishing: A "Framed" lining style and four-button cuffs provide that bespoke signature.

The Waistcoat (The Showstopper)

Liam’s waistcoat is a masterclass in custom design. Moving away from the standard, we opted for:

  • Double Breasted 3x3: A powerful silhouette that adds weight and formality.
  • Shawl Lapel: A 2-inch contrast shawl lapel creates a beautiful visual layering effect underneath the jacket’s peak lapels.
  • Full Fabric Back: Instead of a traditional lining back, we used the VBC fabric for a cohesive, high-end look if the jacket is removed.

The Trousers

Clean lines were the priority here. These trousers feature:

  • The Cut: Flat front (no pleats) with a plain hem.
  • Versatility: Designed with both belt loops and side adjusters, plus internal brace buttons for the ultimate classic fit.

The Shirt & Accessories: The "White" in Black & White

A bespoke suit deserves a bespoke shirt. We crafted a crisp white shirt featuring:

  • Semi-Cutaway Collar: Perfect for framing a black bowtie.
  • The Hardware: A plain balanced front designed for dress studs in Black & Gold, matching the double-cuff styling.
  • Comfort: Two knife pleats in the back to allow for maximum movement during the "all-day" celebrations.

The Big Day: Hampton Manor

With the wedding set for late November, the dark, romantic atmosphere of Hampton Manor serves as the perfect backdrop for this classic tuxedo. Accompanied by three groomsmen and three bridesmaids in a strictly coordinated black-and-white palette, Liam is set to embody timeless style.

Tailor’s Note: "The combination of a peak lapel jacket and a shawl lapel waistcoat is a sophisticated choice. It creates depth through varying shapes while staying strictly within the formal black-tie code." — A Hand Tailored Suit, Birmingham.
