This year, the Cannes Film Festival, or Festival International du Film, took place between the 16th and the 27th of May, 2023. It is an annual film festival founded in 1946 that previews new films of all genres from across the globe. The festival was held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. It is one of the "Big Three" European film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival in Italy and the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany. This year's festival opened with Jeanne du Barry, directed by Maïwenn, and closed with Pixar's film Elemental directed by Peter Sohn. The stars of the previewed movies and many other celebrities attended en masse, giving us a range of gorgeous outfits and glitz and glamour on the red carpet. Heidi Klum
German supermodel Heidi Klum brought drama to the La Passion De Dodin Bouffant red carpet in Zuhair Murad SS23 Couture. The floor-length buttercup yellow dress featured dramatic cutouts, bejewelled shoulders, a thigh-baring slit, and striking batwing-like open sleeves.
Jourdan Dunn
British model Jourdan Dunn also attended the La Passion De Dodin Bouffant red carpet in a dove grey taffeta ballgown from Elie Saab. The voluminous dress was fitted at the waist and puffed in the skirt and neckline. She finished the duvet-reminiscent look with rose gold jewellery, including a bracelet shaped like a snake.
Elsa Hosk
Elsa Hosk, Swedish model and Victoria's Secret Angel wore Viktor & Rolf SS23 Couture to the La Passion De Dodin Bouffant screening. The unusual optical illusion dress had a pink corset base with a tilted blue tulle half-dress over the top.
Dua Lipa
British Singer Dua Lipa arrived at the screening of Omar La Fraise (The King of Algiers). She donned a black floor-skimming gown by Celine by Hedi Slimane. The asymmetrical one-shouldered dress featured cutouts across the front and a daring thigh-high slit.
Gigi Hadid
Supermodel Gigi Hadid made her Cannes debut on the Firebrand red carpet in a custom Zac Posen strapless dress. The structured tan-coloured gown had peplum detailing at the hips, and the skirt flowed into a subtle mermaid shape. She finished the outfit with diamond Messika jewellery.
Jennifer Lawrence
Actress Jennifer Lawrence donned Christian Dior at a screening of Bread and Roses, which she produced. The scarlet dress had a structured bodice, thin straps, a ruffled neckline, and a cinched waist that bloomed into a flowing floor-length skirt. She paired it with a matching stole, creating a train in the back.
Maya Hawke
Actress and daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke, wore an outfit by Prada inspired by Wes Anderson's film Asteroid City at its premiere. The chartreuse-coloured calf-length dress had a 1950s-inspired silhouette with a stiff sleeveless bodice. It was paired with sky-blue opera gloves, white go-go boots, and Chopard jewellery.
