Versace's spring-summer 2023 show took place in Milan against a background of black candles behind glass walls and Prince's best-known songs. The theme of the collection appeared to be Y2K Goth, with black, purple and hints of fuchsia pink being seen throughout. The looks were equally glamorous and tough, featuring slashes cutting across dresses and tops, both structured and flowing designs, leather, lace, and tulle. As the epitome of Y2K, Paris Hilton closed the show in a sparkly fuchsia minidress and hot pink fingerless gloves. The collection started with Gigi Hadid showcasing a superficially simple long-sleeved ankle-length form-fitting black jersey dress with a Morticia Addams style flared hem. However, glamour and edge were added with an asymmetric plunging neckline, attached hood, rib-height slash, and skyscraper-high platform heels.
The outfits continued, heading in a rock/gothic 2000s direction with black leather, fringing, low-rise miniskirts, low-slung belts, mesh, and studs heavily figured.
These images show off some of those details perfectly, with the black leather jacket, low-waisted leather miniskirt, hip-grazing belt, and studded leather bag. The silver hardware of the jacket and belt added much-needed contrast and even more edginess.
The current trend for seethrough garments was represented with this collection's particular twist added in the form of layered outfits for more structure, fringing on bags and trouser legs, incredibly low waists, and silver studding.
Purple was also a large feature of the collection, running through the show in the form of previously featured hooded tops, leather dresses, and jackets. Added into the mix were the early 2000s fashions of underwear as outerwear in slip dress gowns and minidresses, plain or embellished with beautiful lace accents.
Closing the display was satin and lace bridal dresses in neon yellow, hot pink and purple with delicate veils and matching toned stockings.
