Tennis competition Wimbledon has a history stretching all the way back to 1877 when the inaugural Championships were held at the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club. The first week of this year's two-week Championships drew to a close yesterday. Wimbledon is one of the oldest and most respected sporting occasions on the calendar, but celebrities and royalty flock there in their droves not only to watch the supreme skill of the athletes but to show off their court-side sartorial best despite the perils of our British weather. Let's take a look at some of the celebrities and outfits that caught our attention at week one of Wimbledon.
Oliver Cheshire
Model and designer Oliver Cheshire looked effortlessly stylish in a lightweight sky-blue summer jumper with a collar and button-opening and matching coloured tailored trousers.
David Beckham
Ex-footballer and Fashionista David Beckham always brings his sartorial A-game to Wimbledon, and this year was no exception. He looked comfortably stylish in a greige linen-look suit, blue shirt, and knitted tan tie.
Sir David Attenborough
National Treasure Sir David Attenborough chose a traditional blue single-breasted suit, spread collar white shirt, and a busily patterned tie for a touch of fun.
Dave Grohl
Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl also chose a blue suit. He was more formal in a navy shade with peak lapels, flap pockets, and straight-cut, slim-fitting trousers. He paired it with a white shirt and gold tie.
Romeo Beckham
Son of David Beckham, also known for his fashion sense, Romeo Beckham looked casual but smart. He paired black tailored trousers with a tucked-in white T-shirt and a green suede bomber-style jacket. He accessorised with silver jewellery and aviator sunglasses.
Bear Grylls
Survivalist Bear Grylls chose a classic single-breasted, slim-fitting navy blue suit with a white shirt and a matching navy tie for his appearance at Wimbledon.
Chris Robshaw
Former English rugby union player Chris Robshaw wore a mismatched but coordinating look of navy blue suit trousers and a sky blue linen jacket. He finished the look with a white untucked high-necked T-shirt and brown suede loafers.
Ben Ainslie
British sailor Ben Ainslie also went with a mismatched look for his appearance. He donned a blue striped blazer, light tan jeans, and a light blue shirt unbuttoned at the collar.
Topsy Ojo
English rugby union player Topsy Ojo looked smartly casual in skinny navy blue jeans, a white T-shirt, white trainers, and a blue linen jacket.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster
English Actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster looked ready for the summer in a beige linen suit, club collar white shirt, and Wimbledon-green tie. He finished the outfit with gold-rimmed aviator glasses and black suede loafers.
