2022 BAFTA Film Awards: The Ladies of the Red Carpet - A Hand Tailored Suit

2022 BAFTA Film Awards: The Ladies of the Red Carpet

The 75th EE British Academy Film Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London last night (Sunday 13th March 2022), hosted by actress Rebel Wilson as the latest achievements of the film world were honoured with the iconic awards. The award season was in full swing and on the red carpet were many famous faces who brought Hollywood glamour or kept it classic on the red carpet for the occasion and today, we're delving into some of the glamorous looks from the ladies of the red carpet.

Actress and writer Emerald Fennell attended last night's BAFTAs wearing a rather chic and sophisticated dark blue velvet suit in a two-piece form. The jacket was designed with contrasting matte peak lapels with a round point to match the soft velvet texture, along with two flapped pockets and a curved hem front. The trousers are slightly flared and the hem turned up; but the stand-out detail on the entire suit is the animal and star embroidery design on the back. Its fiery colours and use of gold really ensures it glistens and is a "wow" moment when revealed.

Actress Caitríona Balfe was a nominee for Supporting Actress for her performance in the film, "Belfast", and on the red carpet, looked divine in a black floor-length evening down from Armani Privé. With a cut-out section in the middle of the dress, it draped elegantly down to the floor to leave an even more elegant velvet train behind as she walked, the embellishments shimmering in the light so softly for extra glamour. With a velvet flower on the centre of the collar, it was the shoulders that did all the talking, structured high and tall for a confident look.

Star of the musical film, "West Side Story", actress Ariana DeBose won the title of Supporting Actress for that performance as she donned a summery yellow Oscar de la Renta evening gown for the event. The sleeveless dress was structured across the top line as elements of ruching and fabric pleating were seen throughout to add a bit of texture. A thigh-high split featured on the one side, causing an additional train of this yellow fabric to float behind her ever so gracefully. A big orange/red flower sat on the side, highlighting where all the ruching and draping would gather.

Beauty director Sarah Jossel brought more chic to the red carpet as she sported a crisp white two-piece suit for the event. The jacket was a one-button front with flapped pockets and a refined shawl collar, leading down into a curved edge towards the hem. The shoulders were structured brilliantly and the trousers were cut in a straight-leg silhouette to brush the floor with the hem. A subtle centre crease featured on the trouser front and the buttons on the cuffs were either hidden or not included on the design for a sleek finish.

Sophie Okonedo

Actress Sophie Okonedo was also spotted attending the red carpet to this year's BAFTAs wearing a luxurious and slightly tailored Valentino look. The black trousers are kept sharp through the centre crease on the front as the hem almost covers the heels, allowing the pointed toe of them to be on show for extra effect. They sit high on the waist and are made with a zip fastening and belt loops if a belt was worn, whilst her loose-fitting blouse with a scooped neck was tucked into the waist. Worn over the top was this stunning floor-length black cape that draped behind significantly before finalising the look with a chunky gold chain necklace around the top.

Zsuzsanna Sipos

Set director Zsuzsanna Sipos was part of the winning Production Design crew who won the BAFTA for their productions in the film, "Dune". For the night, Zsuzsanna wore a stunning teal green/aquamarine coloured A-line wrap dress, accessorising with hints of matte lilac to tone down the glossy finish. The neckline was designed with a wide notch lapel and collar with a matching fabric belt tied across the front. Subtle pieces of fabric manipulations were included in the dress, such as the folded pieces of fabric below the waist or the pleated cuffs on the 3/4 length sleeves. The hem brushed the ankles in a vintage style and gold buttons could be spotted on the sleeve cuffs also.

Sharon Duncan-Brewster

Actress Sharon Duncan-Brewster was one of the stars of the film "Dune", which was nominated for a few BAFTAs on the night and, for her red carpet look, she sported a monochrome Ozwald Boateng ensemble. The print repeated print was detailed and captivating as it featured throughout the entire jacket and trousers, the actress styling the look with a crisp white blouse worn open. The double cuffs of the shirt could be seen thanks to the shortened sleeves on the relaxed jacket, tucked into a pair of wide-leg trousers that finished on the shoes. The shirt included a classic collar and a covered button placket for a sleek look.

Actress Olivia Swann also sported a tailored look on the red carpet for last night's BAFTAs, wearing a two-piece monochrome look with a very dark grey/black blouse tucked into the trousers underneath. The jacket was kept a little more casual with the notch lapel style as the centre front led into a two-button front and rounded edge into the hem. A welt and thin double jet pockets were also included, sitting level with the bottom button as the shirt's ruffled cuffs stuck out through the jacket for effect. The shirt had a covered button placket with a subtle V-neck and the trousers were flared from the waist with a noticeable centre crease, providing that sharp finish to a chilled tailored ensemble.
