Will there be a Season Two of The Day of the Jackal?

Warning Spoilers!

From November to December last year (2024), everyone was stuck to their seats in anticipation of the next episode of Sky's The Day of the Jackal, starring Eddie Redmayne as the titular character and Lashana Lynch as a gutsy British Intelligence Officer. Watch the original trailer below and catch up on the first season on Sky Atlantic if you missed it.

Season one ended on a cliffhanger, with the Jackal out for revenge against a reneging employer and pursuing his wife and child, who have fled since finding out about his job. So, will there be a second season? The short answer is yes! According to Sky, The Day of the Jackal has been renewed for a second season. The show was the biggest Sky Original ever, with an audience of three million in its first week, so everyone who watched is looking forward to the continuation of the story. Unfortunately, there isn't a release date yet, but it is expected to hit our screens in early 2026. Quite the wait! In the meantime, let's review season one's plot and look back at some of the Jackal's costumes that made the series even more special for us here at A Hand Tailored Suit. You can read our original article from December 2024 here.

The Plot

The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) is portrayed as a highly skilled assassin who makes a living by killing people for the highest bidder. He is shown as a cold and ruthless killer and master of disguise. Bianca (Lashana Lynch) is a firearms expert with MI6 who becomes obsessed with tracking down the Jackal after he makes a record-breaking long-range shot during an assassination, pursuing him across Europe from Vienna, Budapest, and Croatia to Spain. However, they both have personal lives that are disastrously affected by the chase. Bianca's marriage begins to break down, as does the Jackal's, after his wife, Nuria (Ursula Corbero), discovers that he isn't the innocent businessman she believed him to be. The season culminates with Bianca's death and the disappearance of the Jackal's wife and son.

The Jackal's Clothes

Costume designer Natalie Humphries created a wardrobe for the Jackal that effectively showcased his personality. The Jackal's style was sophisticated, restrained, and refined, whether he was relaxing at home, stalking his mark, or carrying out an assassination. The Jackal's clothing demonstrates his meticulous approach to life and the thought and effort that he applies to his work. He is a master of disguise and opts for a dark and muted colour palette when he needs to blend in. We see him in expensive but casual baseball caps, cosy cardigans, turtlenecks, wool pea coats, and bespoke suits with exceptional fit and beautiful attention to detail on the hand-stitched lapels and hems.

At home with his family in Spain, we see the Jackal in lighter and brighter colours, more suitable for the beautiful weather. The clothes are more relaxed and inviting, less dark and moody, and project the family and pretend businessman side of his personality. Though a ruthless killer at work, there is never any doubt that he loves his wife and son.

We thought at the time, and still do, that his outfit while practising shots in a field in Budapest was one of the stand-out looks of the series. The ensemble is practical, featuring a cool linen shirt, functional yet stylish brown leather boots, and comfortable beige chinos. However, he showcases his love of fashion with a bright red polka-dotted neckerchief that stands out against the muted tones of the rest of his clothes. The incongruous splash of colour makes him memorable, nodding to his true sartorial personality.
