The Cannes Film Festival - Festival de Cannes - is one of the most prestigious and glamorous red carpet events in the year, seeing many famous faces turn up to attend the premieres of many films shown throughout the duration. Like the majority of red carpet events, it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic; but this year it really has come back with a bang with the fashion that has been worn so far. Between Tuesday 6th July and Saturday 17th July 2021, we've seen many celebrities take to the red carpet at the 74th Cannes Film Festival - there's simply so many to choose from! At A Hand Tailored Suit, we've selected some more of our favourite ladies' looks from the infamous red carpet.
Tilda Swinton
When: 12th July 2021 - "The French Dispatch" Red Carpet
Actress Tilda Swinton certainly stood out on the red carpet during "The French Dispatch" premiere, wearing a Haider Ackermann vibrant skirt suit. The pink jacket is a cropped double-breasted style with an angled hem and sharp corners to match the sharp peak lapels. With a four-button front, slanted double jet pockets and an angled welt pocket are also included, along with rounded shoulders and capped sleeves to outline the green sequined sleeves. The orange skirt is long in length, made with pockets on the sides as the hem allows the matching pink heels to be exposed to finish the very modern look.
Lous and The Yakuza
When: 13th July 2021 - Louis Vuitton Dinner at Cannes Film Festival
It may not be on the red carpet but is certainly a chic evening look as worn by singer Lous and The Yakuza, wearing Louis Vuitton. The look consisted of three items: a black top, paired with a ruffled skirt and an oversized black jacket. The jacket itself includes wide and contrasting peak lapels with a two-button front and wide flapped pockets situated low on the elongated jacket. Its slightly oversized shoulders lead down into the sleeves designed with a slit from the elbow point down the cuff, creating a draped illusion to the jacket. The rounded hem contrasts the texture of the knee-length skirt underneath, made up of layers of ruffles for another modern, chic ensemble.
Charlotte Gainsbourg
When: 7th July 2021 - "Jane Par Charlotte (Jane By Charlotte)" Red Carpet
Actress Charlotte Gainsbourg was in attendance with her mother (Jane Birkin) on the second night of Cannes Film Festival, as she wore a three-piece Saint Laurent black evening suit. The jacket was a cropped style also in a double-breasted cut with a four-button front, designed with wide contrasting peak lapels and matching fabric buttons too. The single-breasted waistcoat is fastened with four buttons, featuring slanted welt pockets, a notched hem and bound in a satin finish to match the lapels. Subtle details of the suit also include a 4-button cuff on the jacket sleeves, belt loops and and thin jet pockets on the back of the trousers. The trousers themselves are a wide, relaxed fit tailored at the waist and pleated as the trouser length brushes the floor and creates an overall sophisticated, relaxed tailored red carpet style.
Jane Birkin
When: 7th July 2021 - "Jane Par Charlotte (Jane By Charlotte)" Red Carpet
Singer and actress Jane Birkin, who attended the premiere with her daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, also sported an evening suit for the event. The suit from Celine is a single-breasted two-piece velvet black ensemble paired with a white bow blouse with the cuffs overlapping those of the jacket. On the jacket are peak lapels in a contrasting fabric, much like the fabric buttons on the front in a one-button style and 4-button cuffs. These blend nicely with the classic satin stripe down the trousers, cut in a straight leg with a centre crease and finishing on top of the foot. As well as that, thin flapped pockets can also be seen on the dinner jacket as the slightly rounded hem curves round into a straight hem for this sophisticated suiting piece
Karidja Toure
When: 14th July 2021 - "A Felesegam Tortenete/The Story Of My Wife" Red Carpet
Actress Karidja Toure looked sharp and elegant in a two-piece pinstripe Tommy Hilfiger tuxedo, featuring standard peak lapels and 3-button arrangements on the jacket cuffs. The jacket is a one-button fastening with subtle padded shoulders, black flapped pockets and a double vent on the back. The trousers are a straight leg cut with the hem finishing just above the floor and made with the classic side stripe, finished in embellishments to match the overall style of the suit. The pinstripe effect throughout is also embellished, making this suit a dazzling evening tuxedo indeed.
