Critics' Choice Awards 2022: Best Dressed Gentlemen

The 2022 Critics' Choice Awards continued the glamour of the award season on Sunday night (13th March 2022) at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and at The Savoy in London. The celebrities and nominees were seen attending in both locations as Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer hosted the event which honours those in the film and TV world. As the red carpet was rolled out once more (and on the same night as the recent BAFTAs in London), there were of course some strong looks from the gentlemen. Here are some of the best dressed from the 27th Critics' Choice Awards.

Singer/songwriter Van Hunt attended the 27th Critics' Choice Awards with partner Halle Berry and looked sharp wearing a white double-breasted jacket with slim black trousers and a black buttoned shirt underneath. The jacket was well tailored across the shoulders, the contrasting wide black peak lapels balancing the line well. Four black buttons were the design preference on the cuffs as well as the jacket front, along with the top jet of the flapped pockets to really make this a bold look on the red carpet in Los Angeles.

The actor was back wearing Gucci for the red carpet as he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film, "House of Gucci". The cream three-piece suit included a double-breasted blazer with peak lapels and trousers with a subtle flare at the hem. The six blazer buttons on the front with a light brown horn style, the same style seen on the jacket cuffs also, a nice pairing for the slighty darker waistcoat worn underneath. This was designed with a low-scooped neckline and four buttons on the front with welt pockets either side, along with two flapped pockets on the jacket front and side trousers pockets.

Jamie Dornan was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at this year's awards for his role in the film, "Belfast", and on the red carpet, sported a dark navy two-piece Valentino suit. The blazer was double-breasted with four buttons on the front and a flapped pocket either side, with the welt pocket accessorised with a silver pin. Down the centre front edge, a hint of white or grey can be seen on the edge which is picked out nicely through that pocket accessory, whilst other notable details include the peak lapels and four-button cuffs. His trousers include a front centre crease and side pockets as the hem sits just on the shoe with a subtle break above it. The attire is completed with a light blue shirt and matching tie.

Director and producer Prentice Penny was in attendance and on the red carpet, rocked a groovy mix-and-match ensemble. The producer of the show, "Insecure," which was nominated for Best Comedy Series, wore a vibrant patterned peak lapel jacket that displayed colours including pink, red and purple. Contrasting light pink details could be found on the edge of the lapels, the welt and double jet pockets on the jacket front, along with the side satin stripe on the trousers. Worn with a black formal shirt, it was tucked into the rose pink trousers which finished on the shoe. Along with side pockets and subtle centre crease, the look was finished with a classic black bow tie.

Actor Mike Colter was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the show, "Evil", and attended the awards wearing a suave double-breasted navy suit from Dolce & Gabbana. The pinstripe design included an eight-button front (4x4) with an extra button to the side, situated underneath the pattern-matched flapped pocket. These pockets and the welt one on the chest all lined up perfectly with the design as the peak lapels were the best choice for this suit. Accessorising with a flower lapel pin and white semi-cutaway collar shirt, the trousers were tapered to the ankle for a cool look enhanced by his trainers.

Also wearing Dolce and Gabbana was actor Harvey Guillén, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the show, "What We Do in the Shadows". His suit was a three-piece metallic grey  number with trousers just sitting on top of his shoes. The attire featured contrasting teal detailing around the flapped pockets, peak lapels and collar edges. The two fabric buttons for the fastening were also in this teal shade, including those seen on the single-breasted waistcoat. The jacket cuffs were styled with three buttons and his white evening shirt completed with black studs, leaving the collar without a tie for a sleek finish.

Tony Goldwyn

Actor and producer Tony Goldwyn kept the red carpet look classic with a sharp evening suit from Brunello Cucinelli, as he was among the cast starring in the film, "King Richard", which was nominated for Best Picture. The black blazer was double-breasted with six buttons on the front and contrasting silk peak lapels that really stood out against the more matte cloth of the suit. The double jet pockets were also cut from the same silky cloth as the shiny finish of the buttons pick out the subtle shimmer. His black stud evening dress shirt is complemented with a folded white pocket square in the welt pocket, accessorising with the traditional black bow tie and worn with tapered black trousers to complete the look.

He came away from the 27th Critics' Choice Awards a winner for Best Actor for his performance in the film, "King Richard", and on the red carpet, returned wearing a brown three-piece Dolce & Gabanna in similar shape and cut as his suit he wore at this year's SAG Awards. Worn with a white striped shirt and basketweave tie with hints of copper shining through, it was tucked behind his double-breasted waistcoat with a ten-button front (5x5) and thin jet pockets. The subtle gloss of peak lapels of the jacket stood out against the matte cloth with one buttonhole neatly embroidered on the one lapel. The pockets were flapped and with a two-button front, the jacket was left open to show the statement waistcoat, whilst the trousers were tapered with a subtle break near the hem.
