Critics' Choice Awards 2022: Best Dressed Ladies

The 2022 Critics' Choice Awards continued the glamour of the award season on Sunday night (13th March 2022) at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and at The Savoy in London. The celebrities and nominees were seen attending in both locations as Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer hosted the event which honours those in the film and TV world. As the red carpet was rolled out once more (and on the same night as the recent BAFTAs in London), there were of course some dazzling looks and statement suits from the ladies. Here are some of the best dressed from the 27th Critics' Choice Awards.

The actress and singer attended the awards in London straight after attending the BAFTAs and for this red carpet, stunned in a gold and black Gucci gown. Nominated for Best Actress for her role in the film, "House of Gucci", her dress was made of a gold silk and embroidered fitted bodice. The dress flares out from the knees in a fishtail silhouette, leaving behind her a massive golden train which was boldly contrasted through the black trim along the hem. The sleeves were designed from lace and only heightened the elegance and glamour this outfit gave on the red carpet.

A nominee for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for her role in the series, "The Underground Railroad", actress Thuso Mbedu looked ethereal in a golden Dior gown on the Los Angeles red carpet. It conveyed a Grecian goddess through the silhouette of the dress with the V-neckline and the natural draping of the cloth, leading into fringing on the hem. Across the bodice and shoulders was the fabric intertwined and twisted for that added structure, leading round to the back in an overlapping style. The cloth fell from the shoulders in the style of a cape, floating and draping down beautifully whilst the shimmer of metallic gold in the cloth glistened.

Actress and author Mayim Bialik donned a smart tuxedo on the red carpet in Los Angeles for the awards, as she wore a two-piece olive suit from Grayscale with navy details throughout. The jacket included a navy shawl collar with two navy buttons on the front in a double-breasted style, the flapped pockets outlined by the contrasting navy jet on the top. The cuffs are finished with three navy buttons each and the classic tuxedo side stripe on the trousers is also in navy. The trousers are tapered at the hem with a subtle centre crease, matching the sharp straight hem line of the jacket.

Halle Berry

Actress and director Halle Berry was in attendance at the ceremony in L.A. to accept the #SeeHer award, an award recognising a woman in the industry who has pushed boundaries and continues to challenge the stereotypes in the world of film and TV. It makes Halle Berry the 6th recipient of the award and for the night, she sported a black velvet two-piece suit with a white corset bodice from Dolce & Gabbana. The jacket was designed with sharp and tall peak lapels, edged in a contrasting satin finish matching the side stripes on the trousers. The welt pocket on the jacket also was contrasting and placed on a sharp angle. The shoulders were broad and structured for such a strong look and the trousers draped down with the hem brushing the floor.

Wearing Giorgio Armani for the event, actress Hannah Einbinder looked very sophisticated and dapper in her two-piece suit as she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the show, "Hacks". The tuxedo included a silk collar and peak lapels that were wide and finished with a sharp point in what is a sharp outfit. The classic welt pocket sat behind whilst two double jet pockets featured near the bottom of this one-button design. The shoulders were well tailored and the sleeve cuffs also finished with the same one-button style. The trousers were kept classic with a straight leg cut and stripes down the side as the hem casually finishes over the shoes. She completed the look with a white evening shirt and signature bow tie.

Wrenn Schmidt

Actress Wrenn Schmidt was among the cast of the show "For All Mankind" nominated for Best Drama Series at this year's Critics' Choice Awards and, for the night, sported a vibrant two-piece purple suit. The suit had a glossy finish as the cloth was constructed with a dotted pattern - either leopard or cheetah print in style - in the form of a double-breasted jacket with peak lapels. The low placement of the buttons creates a longer shape in the body, whilst the unique curved double jet pockets on the front were finished with black buttons also. The trousers were slightly tapered at the hem and covered the ankles, with the hint of a subtle centre crease making its appearance to mirror the straight jacket hem.

Ali Ahn

Actress Ali Ahn attended the awards with her husband William Jackson Harper wearing a glamorous black velvet dress with a thigh-high split and low V-neckline. The button arrangement on the front gives the illusion of a long blazer dress as the five silver buttons are placed in a subtle diagonal line. The shoulders are padded and well structured for a powerful yet glamorous effect of the gown, whilst the long sleeves are finished with a champagne silk tall cuff either side, giving the illusion of a evening tuxedo shirt and jacket.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Actress Jodie Turner-Smith rocked the red carpet in a stunning blue Gucci gown, designed in a one-shoulder form and scooped back. It was all about conveying the textures in this gown along with its regal and glamorous form, the neckline standing tall and slightly pleated with the tie on the side. From this falls many draped layers that overlap elegantly, the flounces on the side of the dress and across the hem mirroring this perfectly. The one sleeve is finished with a gathered cuff and rounded shoulder whilst behind her, leads a long fabric train to highlight the natural folds of this silk dress.
