The Cannes Film Festival - Festival de Cannes - is one of the most prestigious and glamorous red carpet events in the year, seeing many famous faces turn up to attend the premieres of many films shown throughout the duration. Like the majority of red carpet events, it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic; but this year it really has come back with a bang with the fashion that has been worn so far. Between Tuesday 6th July and Saturday 17th July 2021, we've seen many celebrities take to the red carpet at the 74th Cannes Film Festival - there's simply so many to choose from! At A Hand Tailored Suit, we've selected some more of our favourite gentlemen's looks from the infamous red carpet.
Kingsley Ben-Adir
When: 9th July 2021 - "Benedetta" Red Carpet
Actor Kingsley Ben-Adir attended the premiere of "Benedetta" in a smart Brunello Cucinelli two-piece suit, worn with a white pleated dress shirt and very dark blue bow tie. The midnight blue evening jacket is designed with peak lapels that curve ever so slightly down to the two-button front. Thin double jet pockets are also included as the welt pocket on the chest is defined through the subtle show of his white pocket square. A matching midnight blue buttonhole is featured on his left lapel, matching the buttonholes on the 4-button cuffs, slightly shorted to allow the shirt cuffs to show. His trousers include the traditional evening satin stripe in the same hue of blue, as the centre crease defines the suit more with the hem finishing just above the shoes.
Baptiste Giabiconi
When: 6th July 2021 - "Annette" and the Opening Day of Cannes Red Carpet
Model Baptiste Giabiconi wore a full Dior black two-piece suit in a single-breasted cut, styled with a matching black shirt with a small collar and styled with a traditional evening bow tie. On the jacket are flapped pockets, two-button fastening, a welt pocket on the chest and sharp wide peak lapels. As the collar is contrasted in a black velvet for a soft look on the shoulderline, the lapels themselves are finished with a silver trim to create the illusion of panels on this area. The hem of the jacket are slightly rounded as the jacket sits above the straight leg trousers which fall to just below the opening of his shoes. The traditional satin stripe down the sides of the trousers ensure the noted formality of the suit.
Matt Damon
When: 8th July 2021 - "Stillwater" Red Carpet
Actor Matt Damon looked classic in a two-piece evening suit from Celine as worn with a crisp white shirt and bow tie. On the jacket were standard peak lapels with subtle stitches around the edge, whilst the one-button fastening was complimented with classic flapped pockets with a contrasting jet and a long, thin welt pocket on the chest. The cuffs were in a 4-button style covered in fabric like the front fastening, allowing a little bit of the shirt to stick out underneath. Keeping it traditional within the suit was also the feature of the side satin stripe on the trousers as they included a slight break above the shoe, sitting just underneath the shoe's opening.
Darren Criss
When: 13th July 2021 - Naked Heart France Riviera Dinner
Actor and singer Darren Criss performed at the Foundation Gala's dinner taking place at Cannes Film Festival wearing a navy Balmain ensemble consisting of a double-breasted jacket and trousers. The jacket is a six-button front and fastened with just the one as they are made in white, matching the tops of the patch pockets, the edging on the jacket overall and the 3-button cuffs. The white edging sharpens the peak lapels more to balance out the shoulders as the attire is made slightly relaxed with the slight opening of the shirt's collar underneath. The trousers are matching blue and straight cut with a sharp centre crease, finishing just below the ankles and completing the outfit for the evening.
Spike Lee
When: 12th July 2021 - "The French Dispatch" Red Carpet
Film director Spike Lee has spoiled us with an array of tailored looks so far at Cannes this year, and this red carpet look is just another sharp style. His crisp white dinner jacket with a double vent is a one-button fastening design with a smooth shawl collar, angled welt pocket on the chest and thin double jet pockets just below the fastening. The jacket cuffs are in a 3-button arrangement with no shirt exposed through the cuffs as the jacket includes a straight hemline leading from a curved front. His evening trousers are black and cut in a straight leg as the hem sits just on top of the shoes. The white shirt features a standard collar with a covered button placket, a smooth finish to the red carpet attire.
