The Cannes Film Festival - Festival de Cannes - is one of the most prestigious and glamorous red carpet events in the year, seeing many famous faces turn up to attend the premieres of many films shown throughout the duration. Like the majority of red carpet events, it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic; but this year it really has come back with a bang with the fashion that has been worn so far. Between Tuesday 6th July and Saturday 17th July 2021, we've seen many celebrities take to the red carpet at the 74th Cannes Film Festival - there's simply so many to choose from! As the event drew to a close, we at A Hand Tailored Suit have chosen more of our favourite gentlemen's looks from the last days of the red carpet at Cannes.
Tahar Rahim
When: 17th July 2021 - "OSS 117: From Africa With Love" and the Closing Ceremony of Cannes Red Carpet
Actor Tahar Rahim attended the final day of Cannes and the premiere in a two-piece Louis Vuitton double-breasted white suit styled with a black shirt. The black shirt is made with a covered button placket and small band collar fastened with two black buttons. On the jacket itself are peak lapels with a rounded point - a buttonhole on the left lapel - a slanted welt pocket with two large patch pockets at the bottom of the garment. It's made with a six-button front, two of which have been fastened, whilst the cuffs are arranged in a 4-button style and the shirt exposed slightly through the jacket sleeve. With a double vent on the back and the trousers cut in a straight leg with sharp centre creases, it's a sleek look for the final day of Cannes.
Jay Ellis
When: 16th July 2021 - amFAR Cinema Against Aids Gala
Actor Jay Ellis sported a two-piece mid-blue evening tuxedo with a white shirt and dark blue velvet tie for the gala, with the white pocket square neatly folded in the welt pocket. The one-button jacket is made with a contrasting blue satin shawl collar, with the fabric matching the button on the front and cuffs. With two thin flapped pockets also on the front, a rounded front and hem completes the jacket look as it sits on top of his tapered blue trousers. The hem of the trousers just sit above the show and show a subtle centre crease, an overall smooth suit.
Spike Lee
When: 17th July 2021 - "OSS 117: From Africa With Love" and the Closing Ceremony of Cannes Red Carpet
Film director Spike Lee has suited the red carpet with his various piece he has worn, and this Louis Vuitton two-piece for the final day was another great addition. The custom suit was styled with a white shirt that featured a standard point collar suitable for the navy blue tie. Notch lapels, a two-button front, welt pocket and two flapped pockets are the details included within the jacket, whilst the trousers are a straight leg cut made with a subtle centre crease and the hem just sitting on top of his trainers. What makes this suit unique is the pattern printed onto the cloth, giving the appearance of soft brush strokes have been painted onto the suit. His right side of the collar is navy to differ amongst the pattern but to also match the far right side of the navy suit overall.
Alex Lutz
When: 15th July 2021 - "France" Red Carpet
Actor Alex Lutz sported a two-piece grey Dior suit for the premiere with a covered button placket black shirt and matching black bow tie. The lapels include a contrast facing only half covering the peak lapels with sharp points and including the decorative silver detail to define the contrast panel further. With a welt pocket and two flapped pockets near the bottom of the jacket, the two-button front is also left unfastened to show the contrasting black waistband on the trousers. With front pockets included, the centre crease and the hem just sitting below the ankle, it is a subtle evening choice of attire.
Caleb Landry Jones
When: 17th July 2021 - "OSS 117: From Africa With Love" and the Closing Ceremony of Cannes Red Carpet
Actor Caleb Landry Jones also wore a two-piece Dior ensemble that was styled with a black covered button placket shirt and black bow tie supported by the wing collar. The jacket features with standard peak lapels leading down to a one-button fastening on the front and a slight rounded hem at the base. With two flapped pockets also, the sleeves have a rounded shoulder as it leads down to the 4-button cuff arrangements covered in the same contrast fabric as the peak lapels. The traditional satin stripe are on prominent display on the red carpet with his evening trousers sitting just on top of his shoes and also including a subtle centre crease with a break not far above the hem. It's a classic suiting ensemble for the final night of Cannes.
